I am so sorry, unfortunately, I know how that feels.
I am so thankful that she was able to keep her wits enough to hit the alarm button.
When we were robbed, I couldn't even remember where the alarm was located or what the code was.

OMG! I'm glad she is okay! This is when I am happy that UPS drops packages off at our door and doesn't ring the bell. My dog usually scares the sh-it out of anyone that comes to the door - he sounds REALLY vicious when he's barking...and seems vicious when I open the door as well. Those are the times that I am really happy we have him around!

OMG, thank God your mom is OK. this happened to my mom's best friend many years ago in Todt (sp?) Hill in Staten Island. Guy rang bell, she let him in, he pushed her....he attacked her and stabbed her. She pretended she was dead. Her kids were in the next room but remained silent. When attacker left, the daughter (she was 11) called the police. The man is in jail, they sold their home (took forever to sell b/c the story was in the news and no one wanted it)...he comes up for parole now and then. She has a huge scar from one end of her neck to the other and it haunts her, actually...seeing the scar.
Long story but YES...everyone--be careful! Esp. this time of year. Prayers for your mom, that she can move past and blessings that she's OK!

OMG, thank God your mother was OK. Jeez! Do the police think the guy was staking out her house? Otherwise how could he know how many people are inside? Good Lord! She must be so shaken up still. What a lowlife!!
I always keep my door locked when I am home. My DH doesn't and sort of acts like I am nuts but obviously something like happened to your Mom can happen everywhere. Over the summer I had someone knock on my door and then walk in. She was looking for a different house and it was innocent enough bc the house she was looking for is on the opposite corner but she was pretty ballsy about not walking right out the split second she found out she was in the wrong house - she was stopping and looking at my front door to see what address she was at. I had to yell at her to get out. Anyway, after that I started locking the storm door and the inside door. So if the doorbell rings, I can open the inside door and still have a locked storm door.
