I'm sorry. that must suck. and seeing that sweet face, it's hard to imagine the need...let alone having to do it.

Re: My first really tough parenting decision
Im so sorry that you are going through this. I almost had to go through the same thing with my Cocker Spaniel, unfortunately, he had health issues and had to be put down before he had the chance to go to his rescue.
I cried my eyes out every night for weeks, when I thought about sending him to the rescue but I knew it had to be done. My heart breaks for you.

Re: My first really tough parenting decision
While it is really tough...I can tell you from experience that you are doing the right thing. We tried so hard with my lab. Extensive training and Prozac but it was still not enough. The end result was an ambulance ride with my 2 year old. At that point my only option was putting my dog down since there was no magical farm for him to go to. It just happened in August and was absolutely the most devastating experience in my life. My DH cried harder over this than when his dad died last month. Take it from me that you are doing the right thing. It will get easier!!! Everyday I look for him less and less

Thank you for sharing this. I can't imagine how terrible that whole ordeal must have been for you as that is the exact scenario I've keep replaying in my head. I just said to DH that I think in some weird way we're 'saving' him twice - once when we originally rescued him from the pound and now before we allow him the opportunity to do unchangeable harm
I hope it continues to get easier for you

Wow, double whammy
(on an aside - how are you feeling? I'm on sporadically and I see that you already know you're having a boy. it's crazy to me that you're more than halfway through and so cool to welcome you to team blue )

Re: My first really tough parenting decision
I can not even imagine having to make a decision like that... my two dogs are part of teh family and it would tear me up... however you have to do what is best for your child....it is good to hear you found a home for the doggy though

Re: My first really tough parenting decision
Aww I'm sorry :( I do remember you posting about him all time before the kids..that must have been very hard but at least he will be taken care of. I had to re-home my 2 cats before my DS was born because they started acted out and peeing everywhere...I still think of them all the time and my heart hurts!
