My DS has RSV
I brought my DS to the ER the other morning and they said he had the croup gave him a shot of steriods and sent him home. We went to the pedi later that afternoon and they agreed with he ER and put him on liquid steriods, the next day there was no improvement so the doctor wanted to see him, because his breathing was so bad, they gave him a nebulizer treatment in the office which didn't help at all. Today, the doctor wanted to see him again to see if he had any improvement and the doctor said he didn't feel like there was any improvement in his cough and wheezing. I've been doing the nebulizer 4x a day and nothing seems to be working. I feel so helpless and want to take his pain away. Anyone have experience with RSV? What would help your DC with their breathing? Was your DC hospitalized?

Re: My DS has RSV
my 1st son was 6 months old when he had it. We did end up at the hospital, but that was because he turned purple (everywhere except his face and lips, which was good). But at the hospital they did nothing. Nebulizer treatments, but it clearly showed he didn't respond to them. After them coming in every 45 minutes to check his heart rate or do something else... he was exhausted and couldn't sleep even if he wanted to. So we had enough and said we were going home. It was against their advice but they weren't doing anything that we couldn't do and at least at home he'd sleep. And he did. Best night of sleep he had in days.
Then we just rode it out. He was miserable for what seemed like a long time and the cold ran it's course.
Sorry i couldn't be more help. Hang in there.

Re: My DS has RSV
I dont want to scare you but my DD had the EXACT same symptoms...After three trips to the ER and 4 trips to the ped, I raised H E L L at LIJ to give her a chest xray because she was just getting worse and turns out she had pneumonia!!!!!
As soon as they gave her the antibiotic, she started improving....
Hope your DS gets better soon!

That's exactly what I want to request tomorrow. I'm so tired of my son wheezing with no relief. They have to do something for him.

Same here. DD was not improving with nebulizer treatments and steroids. Two chest x-rays later and it was pneumonia. After the first dose of antibiotics she was already feeling better.

Re: My DS has RSV
My youngest had RSV 3 times in his first year. They were never severe enough to hospitalize him but it was tough.

Re: My DS has RSV
My DS was hospitalized at 2 weeks old with RSV. They would pat his chest to help him loosen the stuff up. Scary stuff. I hope your DS feels better soon!

Re: My DS has RSV
My twins had it at 3 months. My DD was not hospitalized and was able to be terated at home with nebulizer.
My DS was admitted to winthrop for a few days. he needed more frequent nebulizers and extra oxygen.

Re: My DS has RSV
Thank you all very much. The doctor said he had some minor improvement with his breathing today, so he wants to wait for a chest X-ray. Nothing seems to help him and now my daughter sounds bad with wheezing.

Re: My DS has RSV
DD had it at 6 months and was hospitalized for a few days. She also developed pneumonia after the rsv so keep a watch on that!
