My Dixie is gone...
Yesterday, my wonderful dog Dixie passed due to what the vets think was a pulmonary embolism. It was sudden and unexpected, and unfortunately painful for her for the past week. She started to experience difficulty breathing last weekend, so we brought her to the vet, who aspirated a liter of fluid from her lungs. We thought that she would be fine after that, but she got progressively worse, and then we brought her back this weekend, and she passed yesterday. She was only 7 years old, and dogs of her size (65 lbs) usually live until at least 13 or 14. It is so hard b/c I feel like it wasn't her time, and it was so unexpected that I feel that I did not have enough time to prepare for it emotionally. I am so devastated, it feels like I lost a family member. She was like a soulmate to me, and I wonder if the pain I am feeling will ever subside. If anyone else has experienced this, and has come to terms with their grief, and is able to live normally today, please let me know how you dealt with it. It would really help to hear some words of wisdom right now...

I am sorry
We had a boxer, and she died of a bleeding tumor a few years ago. My husband and I were devestated. It is very hard because to us she was like a child to us. I think I was in bed for 2 days crying. I know how you are feeling right.now.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know it may be difficult to get through this difficult time, but try to think positively and take refuge in knowing that she is no longer suffering. She was very lucky to have lived a good life and you did all you could to give her a happy home.

i am so sorry for your loss. DH and i lost our rottie two years ago to cancer. he was only 4 years old. he responded to chemo at first, but then stopped responding, and went downhill fast. i never saw my DH cry so hard as he did they day we had to put him down.
my only "words of wisdom" are time truly does heal all wounds. for months, we cried every time we thought of him, but now, over two years later, we are able to speak of him fondly, and even joke sometimes about how our cat must be the reincarnation of our rottie, their behaviors are so similar.
i am so, so sorry for your loss - i understand it all too well. take time to grieve and don't feel bad for thinking about dixie as a member of your family - she WAS. don't let anyone tell you differently.

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is always hard- they are a part of our families but I think it is harder when it is unexpected.
The only words of wisdom or advice I can give you is that she is no longer suffering and you and your DH gave her a wonderful home with lots of love while she was with you. In the end, that's all we can do. I'm so sorry for what you are going through.

Thank you so much for your kind words and prayers. I am having such a hard time. It comes in waves. Moments in which I get distracted by other things, people, and then when it hits me again, it is harder than before. I am trying....

I'm so sorry for your loss... I'm not sure I really have any pearls of wisdom here but please just remember the good times and take solace in the fact tha Dixie had a good life with a loving family.
With time, this wound will start to heal.
