My cat is a traitor

SO gets up super early for work. One of my cats (I have three), Quincy, always jumps up on the bed for cuddles when SO gets out of bed. Quincy was terrified of my ex, and would sometimes pee on him during the night. The peeing has stopped. His whole personality changed right after ex left, and he has become a really lovely cat.

Anyway, instead of jumping on the bed after SO woke up, he went and sat with SO for his morning coffee. I was so annoyed!

I have two older cats and one is so dedicated to me; in fact, I think he gets a bit mad when SO is in bed because it means less space for him (Holden). The other (Phoebe) just loves people, so I can’t complain. Phoebe also wanted nothing to do with my ex when he picked up his stuff.

But, yeah, Quincy is a traitor.

Vent over.

LOL
Animals are amazing.
I feel like cats are just so human like at times.
I often wonder what goes on in their little heads.
They are a lot smarter than they are given credit for.
I love cats! Such interesting, fascinating creatures

My Min Pin is like this. I can't have a cat again because my nephew is deathly allergic but I swear Min Pins are cats lol

Fred is an absolute asshole to me when I leave him for too long. If I go away to visit my family for a couple of days (Doesn't help I come home smelling like their dog) he completely ignores me and hangs out on DHs shoulder on the couch. He's usually up my ass 24/7. Little jerk lol. But oh how I love him. I tell him everyday that's hes my favorite person Chat Icon

Re: My cat is a traitor

This just occurred to me. You know what? SO came home with treats yesterday. That’s probably why he (Quincy) sat with him this morning. *runs* and gets treats to beat SO at his own game.

I’ll give him tons of treats! He just came up and begged for another! I’ll give him more before SO comes home (he’s one of those giant cat breeds that can take the calories). Let’s see who he likes tomorrow morning!

Re: My cat is a traitor

I just love that Quincy peed on your ex.

My Bella is a pip. While I am at work, she hangs out with DH, wants to be in the same room with him, wants to cuddle on his lap or sit on the back of his chair.
Once I get home, she wants nothing to do with him, even sleeps on my side of the bed instead of between us.

My cat does the same thing when we go away!
She will ignore us and be stand offish for a good full day after we get home.

Oh yes! Mine gave me the cold shoulder for a couple of weeks, because I went away for 5 weeks during the summer. Finally he started cuddling and kneading me again, and following me everywhere... but he was sure to make me know he was upset.

Btw, OP so funny the story about Quincy peeing on your ex Chat Icon

I love it, too, looking back. It was a pain when it happened. I have waterproof things covering my mattress, so no worries there!

Phoebe absolutely loves people. She just cannot resist pats when people come in. When ex came to pick up his stuff, she ignored him. It was odd for her, but I get it now. Phoebe actually sat with my SO (yeah, that was awkward having Ex pick up his stuff with SO there, but it was like 10 months after).

Re: My cat is a traitor

this is funny!

especially the peeing on the EX lol

i am not a cat person. never have been... but...

my ex husband was a MAJOR cat person and he got me a cat just before we got married. i thought i would hate it, but i didn't. that cat was an ass!! and i loved it.

we also had a pit at the time. the dog would be on the floor and the cat would be up on the couch. the cat would hit the dog on the head until he got pissed off enough to chase the cat. then they were off!! the dog would chase the cat round and round the house until he (the dog) lost his footing on the hardwood floors and slide away and hit a wall. then silence.

i swear that i would see a smile on that damned cat's face afterwards.

they would do this EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.

I remember Ex and I going to a cat therapist (yes, they exist here), and I said, well, I think ex is the problem. The therapist was like what? It’s all clear to me now. Quincy only peed on him.

Here’s a cute pic for you all to enjoy. I’ll be running to give more treats before SO get home in 2 hours.

I swear by Feliway, but it seems to only work with certain cats. It works with my oldest, Phoebe, and she just rolls around when it’s plugged in. It’s worth a try. She just had a seizure/stroke (she’s been checked out by the vet), so I’m thinking about getting some more.

I don’t have it plugged in right now (too much $$$), but I use it when I need to.

I’m not sure how many cats you have. I find you can get natural pheromones from their cheeks.

What is your exact problem that you need help with? It took me years to find out that one cat just didn’t like a certain litter. I guess it felt too harsh on her little paws.

She leaves little poops in her bed and the rug around the bed, and she meows and caterwauls all through the night. Scratching her helps but she doesn't let anyone hold her and she won't like, sit on your lap or lay next to you. I'm getting no sleep! She's a rescue cat who's been with us for several months and I think she's still traumatized by her previous life. She's also stone deaf. I thought Feliway might comfort her.

It (Feliway) is worth a try. I’ve actually never had to deal with that, really. Perhaps her litter box is not in a happy place?

Sounds like something about the liter box is upsetting her.
Maybe it's the type of liter?
Is it not clean to her standards?
I know some cats that freak out if the box isn't scooped constantly.
With our old cat, she would take her poops out of the box and leave them for us to find to show us she was unhappy with the state of her box!

ITA. I would definitely try different litters . Also make sure you clean it out as soon as possible after the cat uses the box. Cats are clean animals, they do not like to be dirty and they won't use a dirty box. Obviously there are times , like when you are not home, you can't clean the box. My cat will poop on floor also, but only when I didn't get a chance to empty his box from the last time he used it! he doesn't care that I work and am not home 9 hours of the day, lolChat Icon
