MY BIRTH STORY
Hello ladies, we’re back home with our little boy!!
It all started on Thursday with my Dr. appt at 12pm…I went there 3cm dilated and 70% effaced. He stripped my membranes and my contractions began that night (not painful but 10 mins apart). He & I had agreed on an induction (I was 38 weeks) and I was to call the hospital at 5pm to see if they had beds in L&D. It turned out that I didn’t get in until 3:30am because it was so busy (Fri morn 9/7).
My Dr. administered Cervadil by 4:45am and he waited until 2:30pm to give me Pitocin (10hrs later!) I rec’d Pitocin and was laboring with that until about 3:30/4pm and the Dr. could tell the babys heartbeat was declining with the intensity of the contractions. He stopped the Pitocin and let me labor on my own since my body was cooperating. I waited until I was in a lot of pain to get the EPI. At 5pm I was 4-5cms, I got the EPI and was very happy. I labored on my own until 9pm and began pushing when I was almost 10cm dilated and fully effaced…nothing was happening…baby was not coming down. Dr. waited until 11pm and I began pushing again and still nothing. The baby was posterior and pushing was making his heartbeat decline. The Dr. said the cord was probably around his neck (it was). There was talk of a C-section at 9pm. The Dr. gave me one more chance to push at 11:30pm…I did, and he could see that it was working. Baby’s head was descending. I pushed for about an hour and little Charles Ryan was born at 12:40am on 9/8/07 weighing in at 6lbs 7oz and measuring at 19 ½ inches!
The baby ended up inhaling some fluids, had trouble breathing and they also put him on antibiotics because I was running a fever, so he was in NICU right away. He also was a bit jaundice. This caused us an extra day in the hospital but all is OK and he is one little happy and healthy baby boy!
