My 5 year old is not sleeping... Help!
I don't know what to do anymore. I have tried everything. I keep posting about this bc it's only gone from bad to worse. He perfectly fine and happy during the day. Has some anxiety but he gets ot and speech and has been doing great in school. I've been doing the same night routine we've always done. Shower, relax on our bed for a bit, books then bed. He used to have sleeping issues bad from about 2.5 till almost 4. He got better. He used to come in our room at night. From almost 5 up until a month ago he was great (a year with no sleep issues) and slept all night. Since December hes a nightmare going to sleep. We're up at 7 AM with a full and busy day. He goes to sleep around 8 or at least supposed to. I talk about his day, get him settled, we say goodnight to everything then when I close the door something changes. Everything goes out the window. He gets up, walks around his bed, pushes his stuffed animals off, whines and cries. When I go in he doesn't understand why he's doing it and says he can't sleep. I even tried a couple of drops of that sleep stuff people recommended and some calming oil. Nothing worked. He is walking around the house huffing and puffing that he can't sleep. His 3 yr brother passes out fast and no issues ever. I'm at my wits end. Just exhausted. Believe me I've tried I try breathing exercise, stretching, massage, etc. NO stimulation too

Re: My 5 year old is not sleeping... Help!
My son was the same and just a bit older. He just was too wound up to go to sleep. He is also in speech therapy. Melatonin has been a life saver for us. We only give it on school nights and give a chance to fall asleep naturally first. I am going to try placebo soon to see if that works..

I tried the Melatonin and it didn't work. I did a drop in his milk though and maybe it wasn't enough or he didn't finish that last drop. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Re: My 5 year old is not sleeping... Help!
my almost 5 year old is a horrible sleeper too, always has been. She gets up at least 1 time a night, sometimes she get up more. she claims she has to go to the bathroom every single time but I know its just an excuse. I have done melatonin, it did not work for us. She has even had benydryl. It did not work. I am going to try to see if they can do a sleep study because I have had it. All me and my husband want is to sleep. I understand what you are going through. My dd get services too, speech, Ot and PT. Next week we go to the Neurologist to see if she is ADD/ADHD. My dd cant sit still and sometimes is all over the place and has a short attention span. I dont know if thats why she cant sleep because her mind wont rest?

Does he get enough exercise? Sweets at night? Have you tried Epsom salt baths before bed(magnesium is very important for sleep), Unplugging wifi at night?
Sorry you are going through this!

I give 2.5 mg Source Naturals in sublingual orange flavored tabs. I dont give it on the weekends and he falls asleep at 11-midnight! I do want to try weaning or just doing the placebo because I don't want to give it all the time. I just looked it up and they have a 1mg so maybe I'll try that for a while to see if it works
