Multiples risk is higher with IUI vs. with IVF?
Ladies, I am confused. I read a lot of info and kinda in pieces, and it looks like a risk of having multiples is HIGHER with IUI than with IVF? Does this make sense? Can someone explain, pls? Also, does it depend on whether it is IUI+clomid or IUI+injectables?

IUI is higher because with IVF they have more control over the number of embryos that are transferred.

With IVF they know how many eggs are ebing transferred.... with IUI you really dont know how many of the egss are going to fertilize

its only higher with IUI if you have multiple mature eggs. if you only have one or two mature, fertilizable eggs, your risk isnt very high. the risk gets higher as the number of mature eggs rises. with IVF they know exactly how many are going back in, so unless one splits and makes identicals, you know the exact risk at the time of tranfer.

got it so I wonder what they would do if they schedule IUI, but then see multiple mature eggs, would they cancel IUI and that cycle would be a bust?

Yes. The number your dr feels comfortable with will depend on your issues, history and age.

they could, depends on the dr. a lot of times they will talk to you about selective reduction if there is a chance of higher multiples (3 or more).

yes, or they can switch it over to IVF. one cycle i hyperstimmed and had 10 mature eggs. IVF wasnt an option and it was my first injectable cycle so i probably wouldnt have switched anyway. they cancelled my cycle and told DH and I not to  . we had to use condoms on DH's 30th birthday  !!!
when i went back in for CD3 i had lots of follies still there so i had to go on BCP for 3 weeks to get rid of them.
now if i ever hyperstim again i will switch to IVF.
