Multiple Food Intolerances

or FPIES....Anyone else dealing with this with their LO?

My LO tolerates almost no foods, and it's been a super difficult journey for us. I've been getting a lot of anxiety and been really upset lately, so basically I'm just grasping for some words of wisdom or someone to talk to that understands. Because her symptoms are not immediately and suddenly life threatening, all anyone says is "it could be worse" - and I may become violent with the next person that says that - because they really have no clue.

I would look into the GAPS diet. It's pretty hard to start but the goal is to calm the body and slowly start to reintroduce foods back in.

Also I would try a holistic route ensuring all gmos are cut out. Dyes, msg, trans fats and focus on whole live foods. Severely limit dairy and gluten. Sometimes your body needs to be reset. Good luck!

Re: Multiple Food Intolerances

My DS2 has a dairy intolerance and since he's breastfed, I had to eliminate all types of dairy and believe me there's a lot of hidden dairy out there! The only symptoms he had was mucus in his stools and little bits of blood sometimes. The process of elimination was pretty tough, I had to wait 2 to 3 weeks for my milk to be dairy free and then on top of that I had to wait another 2 to 3 weeks for my lo's body to be dairy free as well. We don't really eat out anymore because it's just so hard to make sure everything we would eat was dairy free. Also trying to find products that were dairy free was another tough one, however here and there I was able to find things that were pretty yummy like brownies. I get them from this vegan bakery in Huntington, let me know if you want the name.

Having to make changes in your diet sucks but the good thing is that it's not forever and most of the time LOs outgrow intolerances and allergies and seeing improvements in them, makes it all worth it. Hang in there momma, you can do it! Chat Icon

Re: Multiple Food Intolerances

So she's about 18 months old. I breasted her for about 6 months, constantly eliminating foods as we went, down to a diet of pears, rice, potatoes & organic grass-fed beef - before I basically became malnourished and caved to give formula. So she's been on neocate formula since then. So there was a good 4 months where she ingested nothing but neocate - should have healed her gut in theory.

As of now she eats pear, sweet potato, some chicken and broccoli & cauliflower. I've yet to find another food she can tolerate without getting sick. I try to introduce something every few weeks. So when I say multiple food intolerances, I mean multiple, haha.

I've been to doctors and other types of practitioners - so I'm not looking for answers, because no one has any - just want to feel like she's not the only kid like this. I spend a good part of everyday reading and researching - I'm a firm believer that food is medicine, but like, she can't eat anything, so I'm just lost.

Also there is a lot FB groups of moms that have kids with intolerances and allergies, u might find them useful.

Thank you, I didn't even think of Facebook.

She prob has the similar symptoms to your LO. Blood & mucous in stool, along with rashes and skin irritation, congestion and i think reflux too.

I have been on GAPS for several months now and I am not completely healed yet but have noticed a significant difference when I have been in a situation where I ate something that I used to have a problem with.

A coworker's daughter has FPIES. She said it was really frustrating at first b/c none of the drs believed her. She's on a FB group that's specifically for FPIES (I don't know the link but I'm sure it's easy to find) and she said it's been a great help.
