Moving OOS
Do you know anyone who moved OOS as soon as kids graduated HS? I have 5 years til that happens and I know that some kids go to local colleges, come home for breaks and move back home after college but I think I will just have to tell my kids they can live with me wherever I move, stay with their dad or figure it out! Is that harsh for an 18 yo?!
I grew up here and no family left. Although i am vested in my company i wont let that hold me back. I want to LIVE life in a different type of environment...maybe west coast

Moving OOS
My friends family did that - they relocated from LI to Jacksonville, FL (well, maybe they did that after a couple of years of college). The quality of life for them was much better down there and my friend moved down there with them after college.
We graduated college over 20 years ago and she now lives there with her family too.

I wonder what they did for work. I will be around 48 so have many years of working left!

My friend's dad was a mechanic and my friend's mom worked in an office. They were in their late 40s when they moved as well.

Moving OOS
I know a couple of people that did that. I would begin having the discussion of where you would like to move so that the children, when they are looking at colleges, could expand their search and recognize that the west coast won't be so far from at least one of their parents. I would also consider the costs and travel of your college kids to spend holidays with you, but college is for a limited time. It can be done

Re: Moving OOS
I think I will move once my last graduates college but you never know. It will depend where we are financially I guess. I would love to hold on to my house as long as I can but our taxes are outrageous and if I haven't used the schools in however long it just won't make sense to stay. I would actually love to move down south but it will never happen. My son is in 4th grade and while that's still so young he would be devastated.

Moving OOS
I know one family that the husband and wife divorced right before their DD left for college. The wife moved OOS almost immediately and the husband stayed in NY, in the same area where the DD grew up. The DD pretty much always came to NY on her breaks and vacations and rarely went to where her mother moved

Re: Moving OOS
I have like 20 years before this happens ((my youngest is turning 2 next month)). But this is what my DH and I have talked about for many years, that as soon as our last graduates high school, we will move to Florida. His company has a brand new facility down there, so will be a great place for him to move to when the time is right. I don’t see my kids going to a southern university, so we would keep both houses until our last settles down somewhere.

Re: Moving OOS
Yes my best friend growing up, her parents divorced, sold the house, and moved right after she graduated HS. Her father ended up moving to SC. Her mother remained on LI. She attended college upstate.
After college she ended up moving south as well
