Moms with babies in daycare...
DS started the other day, and so far seems to be doing well...except that he is NOT napping there...
In a 9hr day he took 3 naps...2- 10min naps and 1-50min nap.
Usually he naps every 2 hrs for AT LEAST an hour...
He is sad our whole drive home and falls asleep by 4:30 and only wakes to eat...
Im so sad, because I dont get to spend any time with him
How long did it take your baby to get use to the noise and nap????
Also- whatever "schedule" we had is now out the window AND he isnt eating so great there....
(should be taking 3- 5oz bottles... and is maybe taking 2 and not finishing them)
He is sooo happy and loves all the kids....and I know he is very nosey which is probably why he is distracted, but I NEED him to eat and NEED NEED NEED him to sleep!

Re: Moms with babies in daycare...
I think it really just takes time for them to adjust - and no matter what, I don't think they ever nap as well at daycare as they do at home.
I know how you feel about spending time with him - but hopefully by the end of the week he gets more in a routine - and the weekend is almost here

Re: Moms with babies in daycare...
Honestly, it all depends on the baby.
My DD is an AWESOME sleeper and napper. At home she takes two naps that last from 2 /12 hours to 3/12 hours each. Usually on the 3 1/2 hour side AND she sleeps through the night 7:30-7/7:30am.
At daycare she does not nap. In the 2 months she's been there, she's taken one 1 hour nap. Her normal naps at daycare are 2 naps that go 20-30 minutes. Once in a blue moon, there is a 45 minute nap there, or even a 3rd 15 minute nap.
Some kids just do not do well in a group setting. I know the issue for my daughter is that she needs absolute quiet to sleep, she is easily distracted and as long as there are kids not napping or teachers in the room, she will not nap.
It makes for a miserable 1 1/2 hours when we get home until bedtime.
ETA: as far as the eating, my DD was the same way in the beginning. She is VERY picky when it comes to who feeds her. She will only let this one particular teacher feed her, and until she was settled into daycare, she was not finishing her bottles there. That took about 2 weeks to work itself out.

Re: Moms with babies in daycare...
AJ did the same.
She sleeps anywhere in any noise because we are NEVER especially quite during nap times at home. So she's used to it. We only get quiet at 'bedtime'
First month or so at Daycare was less sleep, less food.
She was used to me feeding her and it just took time for her to trust and feel comfortable with them. After awhile tho she actually ate better at daycare than at home.
Sleep.... even now she sleeps only catnaps at daycare. Too much to do and learn and see. In NY i'd get home about 8pm and she was asleep and only woke up to eat then was out again. I hated it.
She's older and now stays up to 10pm.
All i can say is it DOES get better!

I'm the opposite. DD is 3 1/2 months and I'm asking daycare what they do to get her to nap for 2-3 straight hours!! She never does that for me at home.

DS has been in daycare for 5.5 months. He still doesn't nap as well there as he does at home. It took several weeks for him to stop being cranky or immediately falling asleep as soon as we got home.
