Moms who make bottles in advance
Right now I mix DDs bottles as we go. But she's going to be starting daycare and they want the bottles already made. Ok, I'm going to get the Dr. Brown's pitcher. But here are my questions...
1. When you go out, can you just put the bottle of formula in the insulated pockets of your diaper bag or do I need to put them in a cooler with an ice pack?
2. The formula is good for 24 hours in the fridge, right?
3. Do you give your DC cold bottles? DD is 6 months and has never had a warm bottle...always room temp. I don't want to start warming them now. Can I take it out of the fridge like an hour before she eats or should I just see if she'll take a cold bottle? I mean, she'll be getting cold milk in 6 months, right?
TIA!

Re: Moms who make bottles in advance
I always make formula in advance using dr browns pitcher so to answer your questions...
1. Yes formula is good for 24 hrs in fridge
2. When I go out I place bottles in diaper bag and I bought an flexible hot/cold pack (got it from the pharmacy section of walmart) and wrap the bottle in it (keep stored in freezer every night) I wouldn't rely on diaper bag cause won't keep it cold enough
3. I always warned dd bottles so she won't take cold..but if she does take room temperature u can always dunk it in hot water for a minute or two to take cold edge off or try to see if will take cold. Not sure how long can take bottle out to of cold before clock starts..I usually heat right away don't think itd let it sit out for an hr

Thanks. I didn't think the insulated pockets of the diaper bag would keep them cold enough.

Re: Moms who make bottles in advance
I bought a small 2/3 bottle insulated bottle bag at buy buy baby and I beleive it came with an ice pack or we bought a small one. We freeze it every nightt and it lasts for hours. The bag fit inside my diaper bag. Depending on how long your ride is to dc you probably don't even the ice pack. As soon as you get there put it into the fridge.
DD took the bottle warm, cold, room temp. She didn't care. I would try to try to give it cold. She if she will take it. If not leave it out for a bit for room temp. If that doesn't work put it in a cup of hot tap water for 5/10 mins to take the chill out.

Depends on how long you're going out for. Powdered formula is good at room temp for 2 hrs. So if I'm going out and I know DS's next bottle will def be in the next 2 hrs I won't pack it in anything. But if I know/think it might be longer I pack it in a thermal tote with an ice pack.
2. The formula is good for 24 hours in the fridge, right?
Right! I make all of DS's formula at night, right after he goes to bed (~9-9:30p), let it sit over night, pour all his bottles first thing in the morning.
3. Do you give your DC cold bottles?
No. DS is a little prince about the temp of his bottles. If it's not "just right" he spits it out and fusses! So annoying. I wish he took a cold bottle.
FYI - Here's something I noticed: Prior to making DS's bottles in the pitcher I was making them one at a time. Back in the day it was 3 oz of water and 1.5 scoops. Then I realized that when you make it all at once the formulation is different, and you'll have to figure it out on your own. For example: DS now drinks 30 oz/day, but I use 26 oz water and 13 scoops of formula (also, 13 tsp oatmeal to thicken for reflux).
