Moms of young ones with cavaties come in....

I took Roman to the dentist and was told he has two small cavaties on the bottom and two starting to form on top. I was told to do nothing about the top ones but to bring him back to take care of the bottom ones. I'm nervous about him getting gas and was speaking with a few other moms whose dentist's told them not to worry about small cavaties on baby teeth if they are not bothering them. What is/was your experience?

Re: Moms of young ones with cavaties come in....

DD had a cavity in her 1 year old molar when she was about 3 and her 2 front top teeth when she was about 4. The dentist I was seeing at the time (not the pediatric dentist I take her to now) filled them no problem. They weren't bothering her but since she was so young they reccommended getting them filled. I didn't want them rotting out and possibly causing more problems (having to get a root canal, tooth pulled, the adult teeth coming in strange because of the lack of baby tooth)

She didn't need gas b/c they didn't have to drill that much b/c they were filled when they weren't that bad. For the one in the molar the dentist put a "pillow" (cotton roll) by her gum and gave the tooth some "sleepy juice" (novacaine) They were REALLY good about NOT letting her see the needle. For the top ones he did put the oragel on her gums and was able to do it with just that.

it depends on what teeth they are in and how deep they are. my DD had cavities in her front teeth and since they fall out sooner we were told to do nothing unless they bothered her. for the back molars. we put sealants on them and that seemed to stop the cavity from getting bigger and no need for gas.

My 4 year old DD just had the same issue, 2 small ones they just took care of without the sweet air... and then sealed them. The other 2 were bigger and deeper and she had them filled last week. I was not in the room with her, but she did have the sweet air and they told me she did wonderfully.

My issue was the cost (we don't have dental insurance and we use a discount dental insurance which the ped dentist did not accept). I paid out of pocket.... for my DD's visit and 4 filled cavities, I spent $1400 Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Needless to say, I am looking for a new, family friendly dentist for their next visit. While all the kids rooms and stuff is nice, I can't afford those type of prices!

"I would get it taken care of. My DD is 7, but when she was 4 she had 2 tiny cavities. I took the advice not to get them filled, and one got so bad her tooth had to be pulled out. It rotted from the inside, part of it chipped off and everything was rotted underneath. I'd rather get her caivities filled 100x than experience that again
