Re: moms of thumbsuckers....
Andrew ***** his thumb all the time and I will really try nothing to stop it.
I am hoping he will stop on his own like I did at 10 yrs old.

Re: moms of thumbsuckers....
I am curious to know too.
Megan is SUCH thumb sucker. Only her left thumb though..the funniest thing.
I am not too worried in getting her to stop just yet but I do think about it often for when the time comes. I mean, its not like a paci, its attached to her!

Re: moms of thumbsuckers....
That's ok
Actually I was probably a little older and by then only did it at night. I never needed braces. I had them when I was 21 and that was for some simple teeth correction not "buck" teeth

Re: moms of thumbsuckers....
At 4 years old, we're still waiting.
Maddie stopped for a full 2-3 months because she believed that princesses don't 5uck their thumbs. I don't know what prompted her to start again but she did & there is no stopping her now.
I have started to tell her that she is going to suck the good part of her thumb away because I plan to put that stuff on her thumb that tastes horrible.
I can't believe she has any muscle tone in her left arm because it's always in an upright position toward her mouth. It's affected her teeth &, I think, her speech.
Everyone told me nothing will work & I'll have to wait for her classmates to ridicule her to get her to stop. I'm not waiting that long.

Re: moms of thumbsuckers....
Our pediatrician said not to worry until their permanent teeth come in and they usually stop on their own before that. He said once they go to school full-time days, and see their classmates do not do it, they will stop.
My DS is now just a nap/bedtime guy and I figure if it helps him calm down to sleep, that's fine. I'll worry about it if he's in first grade and still doing it.
