When did you stop factoring in the adjusted age?

Don't remember exactly but probably around a year or so. By then, she was pretty much caught up.

I usually don't think about it at all - but sometimes it hits me when I see another baby her age. Also, if the doctor gives us a time frame for something and she is able to do it exactly at her adjusted age it surfaces again. My DD will be 8 months this week and I sometimes feel like I am still following two tracks.

Technically two years old. But most of the time they are caught up before that. Ds was 7 weeks early. He was always on the later side of the "normal" range even without taking him being a preemie into account.

Yeah, it mostly came up at drs visits. She was 'late' to sit up, crawl, etc so the Dr would sometimes bring up her adjusted age but once they start to catch up and even out you don't really use it as much. At least we didn't Chat Icon. How early was your DD? I delivered at 32 weeks.

32 weeks, 5 days - but she was 3lbs 13 ounces - so no real complications except being small. I think she is perfect but your right - every time we go to the doctor it comes up again. I am always looking up info for two ages. The milestones seem to have a wider range now and I am WAY less worried but glad to hear that this is not something that I will have to think about/adjust for/worry about forever. Chat Icon

Re: Moms of Preemies

I had a 32w5d preemie & he was late with it all. The ped told us that they say age 3. I noticed my DS was caught up by 2.5

That's funny. I delivered at 32w5d also. Yea, don't worry. You won't have to be figuring out her adjusted age for too long! Chat Icon

Until they are two. Some kids catch up early, some don't. DS is consistently 2 months behind on his fine and gross motor skills. He is 16 months and doesn't walk. He was born at 30w4d.

I have 30w twins who will be 2 in sept. the county stops adjusting at 2. You stop adjusting once your child is caught up.

Re: Moms of Preemies

My twins were born at 30 weeks. I know they say after 2 they stop using adjusted age but mine will be 3 next month and I still find myself every once in awhile reminding myself they were preemies. Aside from a small speech issue they have been caught up for awhile now.

Re: Moms of Preemies

I always kept it in mind. At first the doctors told us they would do it until age 3 but before that, they just gradually discussed it less & less. The adjustment was only 1 month in our case.

Another 32 week 5 days mom here! (this is so weird)

We never had to correct for milestones, only for height and weight. She is still on the small side, 25th percentile for her actual age.

Re: Moms of Preemies

Mine were 36 weeks so technically not premie but the ped said 2 years. Mine started slow with rolling and sitting but are catching up quickly.
