Moms of boys...
I have a newborn DS, so boy stuff is all new to me as I have a 3-year old DD. I have already been christened by my son over the weekend. I have since taken my friends advice and I put a cloth over his privates when changing his diaper.
I'm just curious - is this something I will be having to do until he is potty trained or is it only a stage since he's a newborn?

I never had to do it but I think I was just lucky. You will know when you can stop but no it won't be til they are potty trained.

Re: Moms of boys...
I never did and have two boys. Was only peed on once in the bathroom waiting to put him in the bath. I think it's a newborn thing. For some as soon as it hits the cold air they go or just coincidence. My 2 yr old is in diapers and since he's been walking I pretty much change him standing up (for pee pee diapers only of course). In the beginning I did take a ton of those bed diapers they have at the hospital and used it under the changing pad for diaper changes so this way I didn't have to wash the changing pad as much and if got peed or pooped on I just threw it away.

it only happened when he was an infant...either he stopped or I just got fast at changing diapers!

I took my chances lol. He maybe peed out of his diaper a handful of times in his 18 months. He hasn't done it in a long time. Not that a pee pee teepee would stay long on him now. The second the diaper is off, our hands are going for the jackpot!

Re: Moms of boys...
I think its a newborn stage. I don't remember that happening much after 12 weeks. Also, a tip that someone gave me was point his penis down in the diaper so it doesn't leak out. Good luck!!

Moms of boys...
DS is 3 weeks old and it happens pretty frequently. I put a prefold diaper over him when I change him. I hope it's only a phase!!

Re: Moms of boys...
For us it only happened in the first 2 months or so. After we took off the existing diaper, we would have a fresh one waiting to block any incoming accidents waiting to happen. We had a few disasters early on (complete amatuers lol) but he did outgrow it.

Eh. I got peed on a few times when DS was young. As they get older, it stops. DS is almost 16 months and I can't remember the last time I got peed on. Probably a year ago or more?

I stopped by the time he was around 2 months. He's 14 months now and never pees during a diaper change. Seems like it's a NB thing, at least it was with my DS.

Moms of boys...
honestly i have 2 boys and i never had to do this. When he was a newborn, i would just open the diaper slowly b/c sometime when the air would hit him it would make him pee.... in all my diaper changes with both of them, i may have been peed on 3 or 4 times

DS used to pee on me all the time as a newborn. It got less and less and it's rarely happened since he was about 8 or 9 months old.

Re: Moms of boys...
my sons would when it was cold. You just have to learn to be quick about those diaper changes.
We never used anything to put over his penis. Didn't want another thing to clean.
But you can also tell when they're going to pee. The opening on the tip of their penis is wider when they're about to pee. Take notice and you'll see. So if the opening is wider, put that diaper back on and wait a second or two. If it's not really open at all, you're safe.
