Miserable

Okay so most teachers are at conferences all day today and I am sitting home crying because I have no job. To top that off my "just to pay the bills job" SUCKS. I am a Beauty Advisor at CVS and was just informed that I must work all holidays as if they are regular days. So, if Chrismas is a Tuesday and I usually work 3-10 on Tuesdays than I must work 3-10 on Christmas. This is what the manager finds fair. Yea, fair to the other 3 people who will all be home to their families by early afternoon. Chat Icon So now my first married holidays will be spent apart from my new hubby.

This is supposed to be such a happy time for me. We just got our own place (an apartment but still it is ours) and we are getting married in a few weeks and all I can do is cry.

Sorry for the long, depressing vent.Chat Icon

Re: Miserable

Thanks for the replies girls. Yes it is a 24 hour CVS so it is open on every holiday and it is still a 24 hour store on the holidays which means I am there every SINGLE holiday until 10 pm. I will miss every family dinner, all the pictures, everything.

Okay sobbing now, can't talk about this....Chat Icon

Re: Miserable

Why don't you get a night job that isn't open 24 hours? Most retail businesses are not open on major holidays, and if they are they have limited hours. You have many options in retail, and if not being home for holidays is so upsetting to you (whichI don't blame you for) then work somewhere else.

Re: Miserable

why not focus on the wedding for now, put all your energy into enjoying the day and honeymoon. there will be plenty of time to devote to finding a job when you return.

IMO, i think you have A LOT on your plate right now and are feeling overwhelmed as a result.

Re: Miserable

I kinda know how you are feeling my sister and bil both work/worked for CVS normally on the holidays they try to switch with other employees from different stores to cover for them you need to decide what holiday are important for you and which arnt. Working a holiday there is like 2 or 3x's your pay. My sis is an RX and makes sure she picks up b/s holidays like memorial day and 4th of july she get like 4 or5 times her salary by working someone else's holiday. She made a weeks salary in one holiday shift for memorial day.

Alot of times they have a younger person who would rather party on New years work on Christmas for them and they cover the New years. Or a jewish person that might need two night off for a holiday. Try now to look for covers it will probally work out.

Re: Miserable

OMG 4/5 times the pay??? Maybe that is only in RX because I have never heard of that as a regular worker.

I worked the 4th and Memorial Day and Labor Day and I am willing to do Christmas Eve but only in the Morning. I'll do New Years as long as I am home to kiss hubby at 12 and New Years Day too, I just want New Years Eve in the Evening and Then Christmas Day .

Which CVS do they work at.
