Mini breakthrough in bottle weaning....

EVERY morning Logan wakes up and the first thing he says is babababababa. Today he woke up and said EAT. He then saw the banana and asked for it so I gave it to him. I then quickly made his breakfast (he usually has the bottle when he gets up and breakfast about an hour later) and gave it to him with milk in a cup with a straw...AND HE DRANK IT AND ASKED FOR MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My question is what do I do now? I assume I should try to not give him a bottle in the morning anymore (and not give in!). But I KNOW he will ask for the bottle at night still. It calms him down and gets him ready for bed (and selfishly I like when he drinks his nighttime bottle b/c he is soooo cuddlyChat Icon ). Right now he is drinking about 16 oz a day (plus cheese and yogurt)..how much is a 22 month old supposed to get? I'm just afraid when I don't give the bottle anymore he won't drink as much milkChat Icon

What a breakthrough!!!

I would ease him into the transition - you could scare him off if you try to wean his AM and PM bottle all at once.

When Alex finally weaned totally, her milk intake dropped significantly - but, per our nutritionist and pediatrician, it's ok, as long as you supplement with other dairy sources.

Babies and toddlers should get 2-3 servings of dairy a day. It's very important you don't give them TOO much, as that hinders the absorption of essential vitamins and minerals.

So, when Alex weaned, she was taking maybe half a sippy cup of milk per day, a cup of yogurt in the AM, and several slices of cheese during the day, and maybe some more yogurt in the afternoon.
