Middle of Night Diaper Changes - Another question added

Do you always change your baby when he/she wakes in the middle of the night?

We always have - the past few weeks, she really has only been peeing during the night. She seems to be eating less (only on one side) and falling back asleep. I am still changing her, but it wakes her up. I'm wondering if I shouldn't change her to help her fall back asleep?

Do you think the eating less during the night time feedings is a sign she is starting to wean off - aka - maybe she will stop needing them soon? She still wakes just about every 3 hours, sometimes we are lucky and get a 4 hour stretch.

She is 12 weeks old. I was thinking of this because I was talking to another mom that co-slept and she said she doesn't change her baby at all during the night.

Thanks! I think I will get more baby dry diapers - we had them in the size 1 but now she is size 2 and just start changing poop.

One question - how do you know for sure if it is poop? Do you just smell them? The baby dry don't have the stripe and I'd have to remove the swaddle and pj's to see the stripe anyway.....

DD2 is 7 weeks and with her and our other 2 kids we always changed there diaper in the middle of the night. When they wake up we change then feed that way if they fell asleep after a feeding or even just 2 ounces, we didnt have to wake them. We only change again if there is/was poop during the feeding.

we only change middle-of-the-night poops. The pee waited till morning (we just put extra A&D for the last and first diapers of the day - no diaper rash yet at 5 months)

at 12 weeks is when DS started STTN (not every night though, at that age) so there's hope that our DD will soon be able to skip them too

I used to but I don't anymore as long as its just pee because it wakes her up if I do. I've been using pampers baby dry and they hold up for at least 12 hrs, and some nights, depending on how long it takes dd to fall asleep and how long she stays asleep etc, she end up going 13 or 14 hrs in the same diaper with no leaks.

Usually only if it's poop. Every once in a while her diaper will feel super full and even though I know it's just pee, I will change her anyway. She still goes right back to sleep.

Dsis 5 weeks an I dont change him at night as long as he doesn't poop. His diaper is super full in the AM but he sleeps better when I don't change him.

I only changed poopy diapers at night from pretty early on. I used to keep a small flashlight next to the bed to check her and she really never pooped at night after the first few weeks.

If it was keeping her up, I wouldn't change her anymore. Those diapers can hold a lot! (I would always change poop though so they didn't get a rash)

I remember I used to change them first, then bottle, so they would soothe themselves back to sleep while drinking the bottle.

DD was always in a onesie and then swaddled in a blanket. I would unswaddle her, check her diaper with a little flashlight, then nurse her and reswaddle. I could have swaddled before feeding her but she was always passed out enough to sleep through it so I did it after I put her down.

In the beginning I changed him in the middle of the night but I realized he went back to sleep easier if I left it until the morning so I stopped. DS never ever pooped overnight (lucky me!) but I too would do the smell test just in case.

I always change her for feedings. I nurse so I change her in between breasts and then finishing up helps calm her down and get her back to sleep. When we do bottles during the night we change her first then feed to calm her down.
