middle name help
background: I have 2 and all 4 names are from DH or his family.
now that we are expecting I want the middle name to be a family name from my side.
I would love to use one of my grandmothers' names: Josephine or Martha.
DH and I both like Josephine better, but Martha was my maternal grandmother (who also lived with us, taught me German and was special to us) and my mom and my sister both have it as their middle names. Years ago, my mother told both of us that we didn't have to use the name. My sister did not use the name for my niece. he did not like it growing up.
As much as I loved my maternal grandmother, my paternal grandmother was awesome. Kind and generous and fun-loving and embraced life. (very opposite of my dad)
Would I offend my mom (who I am much closer with than my dad) if I use Josephine? The first name would be the same letter as my dad's first and last name. should I just a completely different name? I would contemplate my mom's name, but I think that would offend my MIL.

Re: middle name help
Well since I don't know your family personally... I don't know how your mom or anyone would really react.
but I would think she probably wouldn't get offended. she did say you dont have to use it. and in all honesty you do have 2 grandmothers that are both equally related to you.

Re: middle name help
I think you are thinking way too hard about what everyone else would like and thinks. This is your child and the name will be with her for life! I highly doubt anyone will be upset or insulted if you choose one name over another or make you explain yourself. You should choose the names you and your DH like most.

Re: middle name help
I wouldn't worry about offending MIL. I figure DH's family gets the last name, my family gets the rest.

yes, yes I am.
My mother would never say she was upset or show it in any way, but I wouldn't want her to feel it. does that make sense?

Re: middle name help
I used part of my mom's first name on my second DD. I know my mil was upset, but she never said anything to me. I personally don't care, I love my dd's name and it was for my mom.
Do whatever you think is best.
