mickey and minnie birthday party (red, white, black) - help!

I am planning DD's bday party. She is obsessed with Mickey and Minnie, so we are going with a "classic" red, white and black mickey minnie theme.

we are on a tight budget! So, there is so much I want to do but I am having such a hard time narrowing it down and keeping it reasonably priced.

Any ideas or suggestions?

DH wants the goody bags to be about $5 each, and he likes giving one "nice" item. I think it's super hard to find one "nice" item for only $5....but maybe for $10 I could find something. He still says $5. HELP! Any ideas?

I woudl love to give mickey/minnie ears for the kids (this could or could not be part of the goody bag). I think they are cheapest at party city?

I am looking for a black leotard and red and white polka dot skirt or tutu for DD, but having trouble. (can't spend too much).

I plan on making some desserts - cupcakes, chocolate mickey lolipops, choc covered pretzels with mickey sprinkles, etc. These could be just for dessert or for goody bags.....

Any advice anyone might have would be so helpful!

A friend of mine just had a mickey 1st b day party.

Hats - she took regulat cone party hats and made them look like the sorcerers hats. SHe found the cone party hats on sale at Walmart and then used colored paper to cover them. SHe saved a ton that way.

Try makign as much as you can on your own. She used etsy as her idea bank.....and did things for 1/2 the cost.

We aren't having a Mickey and Minnie birthday but just hired a Minnie to come to the house. It's a great looking Minnie, just like Disney from fairytaleny.com. Just a meet and great, but I know my dd will love it!

I would get red party hats and cut and glue black paper ears to them and put white polka dots on them.

Also, walmart has red napkins with white polka dots in their party area. I just picked them up.

For a favor, I would give mickey/minnie cookie favors. You can get those for under $5 each.

You could do activities for the kids that go with the Mickey/Minnie theme and still reasonably priced like have an activity table where kids can color with Mickey/Minnie coloring books, make party hats, etc. You can also do a pin the nose on Mickey. Maybe have a Mickey or Minnie piñata. You can put Mickey/Minnie stickers in goody bag as well as a Mickey/Minnie straw sippy cup, which can be your "nicer" item.

I'm doing the classic red & white Minnie for my DD 2nd Bday.
I'm keeping it simple.....
Red white black balloons.
Making her a cone birthday hat with ears attached (making her sister one too)
I'm taking strafoam balls & making a Minnie head centerpiece. I also got a 19" mini doll for a centerpiece & toy afterwards.
They sell red with white polka dot cupcake liners.
Making mouse head mini pizzas
"hot diggidy dog" bar
I think the wheel pastas look like something from Mickey mouse clubhouse so I'm making a black olive, cherry tomato mozz ball pasta salad.
I was able to find an adorable layered skirt (satin red with white polka dots & chiffon red) at Sam's Club. But I might buy a special diaper cover set instead.

We did mickey and minnie for DD's 1st birthday party
As far as favors - The dollar tree had mickey and minnie mouse coloring books and crayons and also puzzles that we used. We added bubbles to our bags also and just wrapped them in a mickey or minnie paper label. They occasionally have mickey theme stickers
I purchased mickey and minnie ballons, table cloth and party hats but as far as paper goods and cups I stuck with traditional red and black which were also at the dollar tree.

go on party city website and search for mickey -- there is a mickey adn a minnie activity book set thing that includes crayons, stickers, coloring book, they also have bubbles and other mickey stuff. also do a search on oriental trading's website too.
you may also want to check out the sugar chic - she did mickey cookies for my friend's son's 2nd bday and they were awesome!
If you want one nice item would you consider a stuffed animal? go to disney store online and check out their small stuffed animals - they run sales a lot where you get 2 for $10 or $12 or something like that and they have mickey and minnie in the small stuffed animals
Edit - they both sell pin the nose on mickey game (same as pin the tail on the donkey) and the kids really liked it at the 2nd bday party!

I was in the Disnet store today. I bought $20 towels that were marked down to $6.99 and then 30% off. If you have a Disney credit card you save an additional 10%. That made them less then $5 a piece. I got Cars and Spider Man but they had Mickey and Minnie too.
