Metformin Question
hi girls:) does anybody take both of their metformin doses at night? I usually take 750mg in the morning and 750 at night but I'm wondering if I can take them both with dinner. TIA!

WOW .. I didnt know we can do this!! Im supposed to take 750 mg/2x day. I thought I had to stick with am and then night. Sometimes I forget and didnt think I can double up. So you girls are saying its okay to take two pills at one time if I forget to take it in the a.m.???

I take 1500mg a day, so I take 750mg for lunch and dinner.
For a long time I was taking then both at the same time. Then I started seeing a high risk doctor who said taking it twice a day is better because it keeps your levels more regular. Since then, I switched to twice a day.

Check with your Dr., but when I started the metformin, one of the nurses @ Dr. B's told me to take both at night with dinner.

I was doing this for a while but then the Dr told me to stop. He wanted a constant flow of medication not just a peak at night. So I take them in am and pm

thanks ladies!  i did the whole 1500mg with dinner tonight so we'll see what happens. i'm hoping by taking it at night, my stomach won't be such a huge mess during the day

I take 2,000mg at night with dinner and was told to do so by my dr., but the answer to your question really depends on whether you take the extended release kind or not. If it's extended release, like mine is, it's designed to be released over 24 hours, so it should be taken all at one time. Just check the prescription label on your bottle if you're not sure - you'll see ER next to metformin. If it's not ER, then I believe you are supposed to space the pills out.

My doctor said it doesn't matter which type it is, it's still better to take it twice a day.
Regardless.. to the OP .. everyone is going to have their own opinion, etc.. I say just ask your doctor.
