Metformin question

So what exactly is it for? What are the advantages to taking it? The RE thinks I may have issues with insulin - but how is that related to issues with fertility?

It is suppossed to reduce the glucose you make naturally, therefore reduce the amount of insulin you make, b/c it's not needed. There is some link between elevated insulin levels and how it affects other hormones, possibly even egg quality and implantation.
The hormones being off from insulin is why some women will O on their own with just Metformin, if they weren't O'ing before taking it. Never did anything for me in that dept, then again, I'm not insulin resistant.
