Metformin
So talk to me about Metformin...Dr. B says that I will have to take that and something else for my anti-body clotting issue.

Re: Metformin
Metformin is not for clotting, it is often given for people with PCOS. Women with PCOS frequently have insulin resistance and metformin is used for that. Metformin is hard on the belly. You'll have to watch what you eat (cut back on carbs, sugar, etc.) Ask for the extended release. Lovenox is an anticogulant - it will keep your blood from clotting too much. The shots go under your skin. It can sting a little and cause some bruising, but it isn't bad.

Re: Metformin
Im on both... metformin has been increased to 2,000 this cycle around... my tummy is having a hard time with this but WHATEVER... small price to pay
ETA: When I was on 1,000 I was fine... it was only after I increased it to 2,000 that I started to have tummy issues
Lovenox.... painless shot but leaves you black and blue and BAD! dont be alarmed!
anything else dont hesitate to ask!!

Re: Metformin
Like the other girls said Metformin in rough on the tummy. Definitely work your way up to the dosage they ultimately want you on, or ask for the extended release. I find that taking it with meals alos makes it a little better.

Re: Metformin
I started on 1500mg immediately and I felt sick so Dr.B said to go down to 750mg and since I did well on that dosage he said I should just continue like that.
I take it at night after a meal and I have no issues. I'll be taking it at least through the end of my first tri

Re: Metformin
Def. take it slow!! Add doses as tolerated. You might have to play around with foods to see which ones have the most effects (if that happens), like most carbs are fine for me, but veggies are killer! I found the fatigue to be bad too...but the GI issues were the worse. GL!

Re: Metformin
ive been on 1500mg for four months. i have absolutely no side effects from it, except a smaller appetite and less food cravings. so only the good side effects . i started slow with 500mg the first week, then 1000mg the next week. i have clotting issues to. the metformin wont fix that directly - BUT it doe help to fix some of the insulin resistance in PCOS, and fixing that problem (according to dr. b) in turn fixes SOME of the other issues associated with PCOS (ie. egg production, lower LH, etc.). good luck!!

Re: Metformin
Ah Metformin, my BFF. Like other PPs said, it is rough on the stomach. I take it immediately after dinner, which seems to help a bit. Some foods make it worse (pizza, bagels for me), so you'll just have to figure out which foods, if any, trigger side effects for you and avoid them. And like a PP said, it will decrease your appetite.
