Men (long)!

I'm not the type that usually blames gender for stuff, but today that has changed...

I'm going to preface this with I'm being induced on Sunday...

So my dad decides last weekend that the baby's room needs to have a closet. The people who lived here before us took the closet out and made it a shower in the bathroom even though there's a tub with shower (maybe someone was handicapped). So my dad and DH go to work last Sunday on this. 8 hours of blood, sweat and tears and they've hung one wall with the closet door, tore out the bottom of the shower and put a piece of wood down in it's place - the 2 other walls filled with now broken tile are still in place... my father suggests coming back this coming weekend... my DH tells me to call the most recent bathroom contractors we've gotten an estimate from and ask them if they can start work this week.

To make a painfully long story only a long story - we sign the papers on Monday and today they start work. I had started to wash some of baby's clothes and I had a load of laundry in the washing machine when the workers came in. DH didn't bank on the fact that the bathroom in repair is right above the laundry room which ceiling is UNFINISHED. So, I hear the buzzer go off b/c my wash is done and I open the door to a cloud of dust and tile and junk falling through. I was freaking out... the contractors came down and put tarp over the washer, dryer and shelving, but there's definitely debris on top of my top loading washer that has now clean baby clothes... well they were clean.

I couldn't get the clothes out without everything falling into the machine so I left it hoping that by the end of the day and by the time I can get a shop vac in there to cleain up that the clothes won't stink of mildew from sitting in wetness like that. I plan on re-rerunning the washer. DH is at work, I called my mom crying. She said that her and my dad will come by tonight to help me clean up the laundry room. DH of course isn't stressed about this at all... granted it would be a different story if the debris fell on the TV or his computer as to obstruct video game playing time - which is why I want my parent's to come help with clean up b/c if I wait for DH I'll be waiting till after on-line Battlefield - the baby may be a month old by that time.

Contractors are to come back tomorrow, but even now there's little to no noise and no more dust. The demolishon was the dirty part I guess, and I'm sure more cleaning will need to be done again after this is over (which is around next Tuesday - just in time for me to come home with the baby Chat Icon ), but I have to get those baby clothes out of the washer/re-washed... it's not like you can bleach them. Not to mention too that there's still 2 more loads of baby related stuff and my stuff to wash for the hospital that I just bought. I don't even have a bag packed I today I'm 38 weeks 6 days. If I went into labor I'm screwed.

Reason I'm suggesting this to be a male thing... my mom is also sitting there like "what are these 2 idiots thinking?". I know we've needed the bathroom done since day one - which was 5 years ago, and DH is like "why aren't you happy that the horrible bathroom - which is hardly functional is getting redone?". I feel bad on the one hand b/c it's a lot of money (and we went with the cheapest deal), but on the other I'm like can we say "TIMING"? I mean, am I expected to clean the house the day I get home from the hospital?

Hope DH will deal with the bathroom walls not being painted for a LONG time - unless he wants to pay someone. He's not a handy-man at all, I do more of the construction on the house, but I can't these days... so frustrating.

I know - I mean minus the 12 weeks we didn't tell anyone the big news, there was at least another 15 or so that could have been used to make the house a construction site.

uhm, NO. DH will do the cleaning! Make sure he knows that the house must be clean... not by DH standards... I mean HOSPITAL clean..... before you come home with your little one.....

Yeah, they're obviously oblivious when it comes to time management skills.

Maybe when it hits him that he will be in charge of clean-up he will realize that the timing really was horrible, and there's now a ton to do......

As far as the clothes are concerned, just run them again. They will be absolutely fine. I have left clothes sit for a lot longer than a few hours Chat Icon
