Re: medical leave question
It depends upon your plan, and your doctor, and your health/recovery. But it can be taken over by short term and long term disability.it is not meant to pay you your salary forever while you just sit back and relax. For many companies, they will terminate your employment after a certain length of time, generally a year, but sometimes, much shorter. It depends upon your illness. Medical leave can be paid r unpaid depending upon your plan. A lot of times it is funded by short and long term disability. If you previously did not enroll in those, you may not get paid at all.

medical leave question
All depends upon your company policy and their insurance carrier. I start my short term disability tomorrow. According to my company's policy because I have 20 years with them, I will be paid my regular salary for 20 weeks, then 60% for an additional 6 weeks. If I have to go longer than 26 weeks, long term disability kicks in. The insurance carrier may not allow me 20 weeks, they may cover less for my comdition. It all depends upon my recovery, progress, and what my doctor claims that I need. The insurance carrier pays my company the disability amount. I still keep my health insurance, regular 401k contributions are still made, it's a normal paycheck. My company is required to keep my position, but I can return to a different one if they feel the need to replace my current one. It must be a comparable position. After one year of short term / long term disability, I would be terminated.
I am not familiar with FMLA and how that might apply.
