May be a dumb question but...

How can you tell if your baby doesnt like being swaddled? I mean, i just bought the miracle blanket because I noticed a lot of times during the night jacob would get startled from say a gas pain and then smack himself in the head with his arms, and then he'd be awake. So i figured let me try swaddling. But I have used the miracle blanket for about 4 nights and when i put him in it, he kinda squirms and trys to fight his way out. I feel bad, like i'm putting him in a straightjacket. But was wondering is it normal for babies to kinda fight it and try to wiggle out or is that a sign that he doesnt like it? Tonight after his bath, i swaddled him again and he was kicking and squirming all over so i just took him out of the miracle blanket and put him in a regular receiving blanket trying to keep his arms down. I know they'll come loose though... anyone have input??? Thanks! Chat Icon

It really depends. Andrew was only swaddled for the 4 days we were in the hospital. Once we got home, he hated being swaddled and slept so peacefully not being all wrapped up. For some babies, swaddling is essential.

I'm guessing that jacob didnt like whacking himself in the head either. It was obvious when my daughter no longer liked to be swaddled -- she screamed until the second I took it off and then all was well and she relaxed (at about 4.5 months). A little fussing while getting wrapped up is to be expected, the process is awkward.

In the end, you know best what will make him most comfortable, even better than Jacob knows.

Hayley is 5 months old and is still swaddled at night. She doesn't fight me when I put her to bed so I guess she doesn't mind.

Same thing with Ryan. He was swaddled the entire time in the hospital and wanted no part of it once we got home. Every baby is different I guess.

Thanks girls, well last night i put him in the regular receiving blanket and he only slept for 4 hrs not the 5-7 i was getting with the miracle blanket. When i went in to get him his arms were loose and he had prob smacked himself a few times thats why he was awake. So tonite i am going back to the miracle blanket. He never crys when he's in it so i guess then he doesnt mind too much. Thanks again!!Chat Icon
