Mattresses for preschooler

So, at 3 1/2 and with a new baby on the way, we are finally going to move DS out of the crib. (he's been comfortable and doesn't climb out -and it keeps him in bed when he doesn't want to go to bed.)

But, it's really time. So, we found a nice captains/ trundle bed. But I just am unsure of the best type of mattress for him. Firm, soft, coil, foam?? I have been trying to research, but still not sure. What do you all recommend?

Also, with it being a Trundle, the mattress has to be no more the. 8 1/2 inches deep.

We just purchased this twin mattress for our 4.5 yr old son.

I was very skeptical about the whole mattress in a box thing, but I was pleasantly surprised with it. As soon as it was unwrapped, it plumped up to be a very comfy mattress that even I thought was comfortable to lay on.

Try Bob's. we got our daughter's mattress and bed frame there when we transitioned her to a bed. They have all sizes.

Trundle mattresses are hard to find. Sleepys doesnt even carry any. I wound up buying a foam mattress at Sleepys that just made it but it's not that comfortable.

Pottery barn kids has a trundle mattress that seems amazing and is made for their trundles.

We just switched our DD (age 4.5) into a twin bed and we got her a coil mattress from Bob's. It was inexpensive and perfect her. She sleeps well on it.
