Matthew's Eviction Day!!
Caps612's post made me realize I should type up my birth story before I start forgetting the details!! So here it is…
I was due on Monday, February 18th which came and went without even a mild contraction… that week I started seeing my doctor every other day for non-stress tests. On Thursday I went to the doctor in the morning and after the NST they did a sono. The doctor said he wasn’t seeing as much fluid as he would have liked. He was finding just under 500ml and said he would want it to be over 500. So they decided to send me back to Carnegie Imaging for a better look. (That is where I went for all of my growth sonos and other testing throughout the pregnancy). They took me right away… the tech took measurements, I saw LO moving around and at the end she said she was seeing less than 300ml. The doctor came in an said “I think you’re having a baby today!!” and we went into his office to call my doctor who told me to go home, get some rest and be back at Mt. Sinai at midnight to be induced.
I called DH, who left work right away and then called my sister, who met us for lunch since we were in the city anyway… after lunch I took the train back home with DH and we spent the rest of the day relaxing with the pups and checking and rechecking my hospital bag. At 10pm I took a shower, got dressed and we drove back into the city.
When I got to the hospital I checked in and they took us to my room. I met my nurse and the OB on call. (My doctor wouldn’t be there until morning). Due to having Harrington Rods in my spine from surgery to correct my scoliosis 8 years ago I requested to speak to the anesthesiologist right off the bat since I heard there could be issues getting the epi with the rods in. As a side note I have to say meeting these overnight doctors and nurses was like walking into a TV hospital drama. Everyone looked 22 and was super good looking.  Soooo anyway… after talking to the anesthesiologist it was decided they would hook up the epi before inducing me to make sure it was working and also just in case they had to redo it they would have time. After the epi was in place they inserted the foley bulb to see if I would start to dilate… I fell asleep and when they woke me up I was 3cm, they removed it and then started the pitocin. Contractions started shortly after. The epi was amazing, I never felt a single contraction and really slept through most of it. The doctor would come in when a contraction would start and DH and I would look at the monitor and watch these huge peaks and I didn’t feel a thing. Unfortunately the reason the doctor came in every time I had a contraction was because whenever we saw one of those huge peaks we also saw DS’s heart rate drop. They would stop the pitocin to let his heart get a break and then started it up again hoping eventually his heart rate would stay up through the contractions. At 8am my doctor came in and told me I never dilated past 4cm. She decided to break my water and restarted the pitocin one more time. We decided that if DS’s heart rate dropped again we were going to go for the c-section instead of going back and forth with the pitocin all day. At 9:30am my doctor came back and said I was still at 4cm and when they stopped the pitocin I just wasn’t contracting on my own and that his heart just wasn’t staying up during contractions. So off to the OR we went…
On the way to the OR I got really nauseous and actually threw up so once we got to the room they gave me something to help with the nausea. Everything was very relaxed, my doctor and I chatted about the house she was buying while DH suited up… there were two anesthesiologists in the room and they started pinching my belly to ask what I could feel and what I couldn’t… as it turns out the bottom left side of my stomach was not numb at all!!! They tried adjusting the meds but it just wasn’t doing anything. I was so numb in my legs at that point I couldn’t move so they rolled me over, removed the epi and redid it. I didn’t feel a thing and within minutes I was numb basically from my ribcage down and my doctor started the c-section. Minutes later Matthew John was born at 11:40am weighing in at 7lbs 6oz and was 20 inches long!!
And now I spend my days staring at this gorgeous face!!!

Your story had way more detail than mine.... I totally left out do much!!!!! We are obviously overdue for a chat not via text..... I didn't know alot!!!

My phone died at some point during the day and I did a horrible job updating people.
When are babies allowed to hang out together? Do we have to wait for their next round of shots? That seems like an eternity from now... although I am sure it will fly!

That is a crazy coincidence!!
Do your rods go all the way down your spine? Mine are only the top half so they were able to do it.

That is a crazy coincidence!!
Do your rods go all the way down your spine? Mine are only the top half so they were able to do it.
Yes, my fusion from the scoliosis goes from T5 to L3. Since having my second baby, I've also had L5/S1 fused, so there is pretty much no chance of an epi working this time around. With my second I was able to get a spinal and that worked.
Hope you're enjoying your cute little guy and recovering well!

Seriously! That would have been awful. Glad they worked that out.
Can't wait to meet Matthew in person one day. He's such a cutie pie.
