MATILDA?!
THIS is the name that DH wants for DD#2...... and to call her Tilly.
Now, I KNOW that to some Matilda is a beautiful name- but I am just not into it.
He has totally nixed my favorites: Phoebe
Vivienne
Lucinda
We *might* agree on Abigail, but its SO common nowadays and I HATE Abby as a nickname.
Its going to be a long 22 weeks.....

I like Matilda, Phoebe, and Vivienne...not a fan of Lucinda.
Hopefully you guys stumble upon a new name that you both love! My friend just name her baby Sadie Georgianne (no, she's not southern) which I love!!!

I don't like it... I personally think it sounds too affected like a lot of those random names out there. And if you were going to shorten it-- I would like Mattie, as opposed to Tilly. Tilly sounds like someone's grandmother from the south.
I am ALL FOR an uncommon name-- but, something that is still a little more *normal*.
Our of all those-- I like Phoebe-- but I think that's pretty popular these days.

Well- one issue is that Madelyn's nickname is Maddie, so there goes that. I truly can't see myself naming the baby Matilda- I just don't love it at ALL.
I am so annoyed at DH that he won't budge on Phoebe. I've loved that name since I was a teenager and saw Phoebe Cates in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Whats nice is that Phoebe hasn't been in the top 100 for a VERY long time (I searched all the way back to 1998)- so its not a popular name.
Wah- we'll figure it out I suppose. I just feel that HE should be compromising more than ME because I am the one who is dealing with the discomforts of pregnancy and labor/delivery.
I'll be stalking all your suggestions ladies!

You just laid out your whole argument here...
You cannot have two children-- one names Madelyn and the other Matilda-- those names are way too similar. I think it would be confusing for the kids, teachers (will screw them up) and a zillion other people.
The fact that Phoebe is not as popular-- another selling point.
The fact that you are carrying this child-- is the trump card!
I would ask DH to come up with other names he likes-- as oppposed to pushing for Phoebe and see what he comes up with. I think the similarity to Madelyn should sway that.

BELIEVE me- the reason I was able to type it so fast was BECAUSE its been my argument. He (and my mom- and even my SISTER) have said, "Well, we'll just call her Tilly".
I feel that by naming her Tilly we are GUARENTEEING that there will be resentment when she is 15.

Hey! That is my name! but I spell it Matilde.
LOL I know it isn't for everyone but just to give you a different point of view. . .my parents INSISTED that everyone called me by my full name and everyone does. I am only Tilde online but IRL I am ALWAYS Matilde. I could never be Tilly or Mattie!

I'm with you. I'm not really a fan of the name. Plus, even if you call her Tilly, when kids grow up, they often choose their own nicknames, or their friends just start calling them by certain nicknames. What if she wants to be called Matty, or if friends automatically call her that, and it's already her sister's nickname.
