I think you mean is 25 at least 60% of 49.... right? If so, I'd just multiply 49 by .60 which gives you 29.4. Since that's more than 25, no, it's not more than 60%.

This is what I did. Simplest and fastest method (assuming the question is how you interpreted it, not how it was originally posted). Not the only method, of course. One reason I like math is that there are often several ways to get to the correct answer. As long as you get there, the method doesn't matter so much.

Yeah, I think I interpreted the question wrong. I've always enjoyed math for that reason, too. If I wanted to know if the difference between 25 and 49 was more than 60% I'd plug it into the formula differently- I'd multiply 25 by .60 and get 15 and then add it to 25 to show that a 60% increase of 25 would be 40. So then yes, 49 is more than a 60% increase from 25.

So you want to know the percent increase from 25 to 49? I use the formula: change/original x 100

So in this case 24 (the change or difference between the two numbers) divided by 25 (the original number) and then multiply by 100.

24/25*100= 96. So the answer as I read it would be yes, it's more than a 60% increase.

so wait is the way I did it incorrect?

I am just curious:

25*.60 =15
15+25=40

so 49 has to be more than 60% of 25?

I was basically doing the opposite on how to figure out what is 60% less than 25 is

ETA: I was always good in math when I was in high school but forgot most of the basic since then. I am figuring this out based on me shopping sales all the time and trying to figure out what the percentage off a number would be Chat Icon

No, you're totally right.

ok thanks!!! Chat Icon

so OP
if you need to just know if 49 is at least 60% more than 25 I would do it my way.
IMO its the easiest way you can do it.

if you needed to know exactly how much of a percentage 49 is of 25 I would do it the other way that is in this post

but of course that's just my opinion Chat Icon Chat Icon
