Maternity Leave
How does it work...isnt tjere something with the government where they pay you on maternity leave, or is that just 3 months job security? Do you have to fill out any papers or anything for this? Sooo confused

Ask your job , some places have maternity leave and others have disability! I am going on disability but this means I have to work up until 2 weeks before my due date. Every job is different so I would definately ask . HTH

Check with your employer for the specifics. However, if your company has more than 50 employees you should be entitled to time off under the Family medical leave act. This equals 12 weeks off with job security. But it does not mean that you will be paid.
Depending on the number of employees you may also get 6 or 8 disability after childbirth (depending on whether you have a vaginal delivery or a c-section) with 1/2 pay.

with me they paid me for six wks but only sent 3 checks so it was kind of a Biweekly thing

I just looked at their site and it's still the same. It took me about 4 weeks to get a check and it was for a lump sum. Then I received one check after that.

The checks don't actually come from the state, they come from the insurance company that is funding your particular policy. So if your company offers extra coverage and you or they pay into it, you would get one check from that insurance company. I think a lot of companies should start offering a better policy for their employees. I know I would've gladly paid extra in order to receive more than $170 ($140 after taxes) for five weeks, which is just pathetic to be honest.

Every job is different. My job gave me 12 weeks under FMLA (the Family Leave Act). FMLA guarentees my job however not all of it is paid. Paid time does not usually start until I would actually give birth, I would get 6 weeks paid time if I have a vaginal birth and 8 paid weeks if I have a c-section.
In my case I was having pre-term labor and was just approved for disability which I'm currently on and am getting paid for my entire leave of 3 months.
Again every job is different so you should definitely check with your HR department.
It can be confusing so I totally understand where your coming from as I was there before, I was very confused about the whole maternity leave also.

I'm confused as to how you are getting paid for 3 months after if your employer isn't paying for it. It's standard to pay you for the time up until you give birth if you have a pregnancy complication and can't work, but not typically beyond the standard 6 or 8 weeks after unless your work provides extra coverage (but you said they didn't).

The insurance company is paying me not my company. I am out for a total of 12 weeks and already started my 12 weeks as of May 16th. I won't get an addtional 3 months, I get a total of 12 weeks from the time my disability began. Unfortunately, these three weeks is taking away from whatever time I would have at the end with my DD.
