Maternity clothes

Does anyone know if there really is a difference between maternity clothes and regular clothes??? I mean I know the shirts that you tie are definitely maternity, but like the knit shirts and stuff seem to be exactly the same as regular shirts. Obviously you would need a bigger size, but what makes them made differently since they are already a stretch material? Thanks!

I'm asking because I went maternity clothes shopping this weekend and I couldn't tell the difference.

Re: Maternity clothes

Theres a BIG difference between regular larger shirts you can wear and maternity tops..
The maternity tops are more fitted to "show off" your belly while a regular larger top will just sorta hang on you and not show your tummy but just make you look like u gained alot of weight...

Did you try the shirts on?
also remember that the maternity sizes run the same as the regular sizes you would wear..
If you wear size medium shirts, you would take a size medium in maternity shirts.
If your a medium size shirt and u tried on a maternity xlarge, then yes, it would be the same as wearing just a larger shirt.

Re: Maternity clothes

The biggest difference I find is the length. My regular shirts just aren't long enough. As the above posted said...when I tried on just a bigger size, it just made me look fatter because it was loose in all the wrong places.

Re: Maternity clothes

DEFINITELY buy the maternity clothes! If you don't want to spend a lot of $, try JC Penny, Old Navy and H&M.
I agree with Luvsun- you'll need the length to cover your belly (but at 36 weeks, NOTHING is covering this huge stomach of mine!)

I've also found that alot of the shirts (not all) are a bit rounded or longer in the front to accommodate the belly but straight in the back.

length + more material in the front so shirts don't ride up in the front and not the back.

during the winter i got away with big bulky sweaters on top. i didn't really start wearing maternity t-shirts and tops til my 3rd trimester when the weather warmed up!

pants? i was in maternity pants early right out of my first trimester...
