Do you have to be referred for this test by your OBGYN or can you make an appointment somewhere on your own? I am 34yo and OBGYN doesn't think it is necessary, but I wouldn't mind having it for peace of mind. Has anyone had any experience?

i didnt take it b.c my OB believe that the NT scan is the gold standard for downs, and other trisomy testing, but i think you would have to go to a different OB to get that test done, if your OB wont, but i would just insist, it should be your choice.

my ob just gave me the name of a genetic counselor and we set up the appt ourselves. They went through the different tests and then just sent us to the lab (in the same building) for them to draw blood for the test. You dont need your ob or any ob to get the test done, you can just make the appt on your own.

I believe you need to be AMA (over 35) or have abnormal results on your NT for it to be covered. I could be wrong. I know it is a rather expensive test. I would definitely call and ask if you want it and if its covered. It can't ask. FM me the number if you want the number of one of the companies that do it. I am sure their billing department can tell you if you will be covered.

We were referred because our NT results were abnormal. Nt sure how it works if you just want to go on your own.

My OB told me when the time comes, because I am 35 the insurance will cover that test.
