Mastitis questions

Is it possible to have mastitis with no redness? I woke up with extremely tender breasts and a 100 fever. I took ibuprofen and 2 1/2 hours my fever is coming back. I'm supposed to pump again and I'm too scared to because of the pain. I'm not sure what's going on, but I also had a slight sore throat.

Use warm compresses and keep pumping. I didn't experience the redness until after the fever. If the fever doesn't go down, call your doctor. My OBGYN prescribed me an antibiotic that was safe for breastfeeding.

Not sure. I had those symptoms but also looked like one of my books was sunburned. Don't skip pumping. That will make it worse.

This. I also didn't experience redness, just tenderness, and that area got swollen and hard. Also gently keep massaging the area so the milk that is trapped can find the right ducts.

Re: Mastitis questions

I had mastitis once with no redness. The other times I had it, I had redness. Maybe it is just the beginning stage?

Re: Mastitis questions

I've had it without redness
What helped me is I would fill ziplock bags with water that was as hot/warm as I could tolerate and put it on the spot for 15 minutes before I was going to pump or feed. Then while feeding or pumping I would massage it. Hurt like a
B I t c h but it helped and sometimes I was able to avoid full blown mastitis

I have had it where there is no redness initially, but then it comes a few days later. Also, if your nipple are cracked you can get an infection through your nipple that is not the result of a clogged duct. I've had that, too.
