I agree, people should NOT own assault rifles. Whether they were "illegal", how do you stop someone from purchasing them illegally. Just like our drug epidemic

And yet, nothing will ever change.
If Newtown didn't result in change, nothing will.
seriously....
I understand people want to protect themselves, but it is necessary to have military assault weapons?
when people are buying these thing in mass, shouldn't there be an alert? Like why is someone buying this many rounds of ammunition?
It is so sad. I LOVE vegas. it breaks my heart.
This could happen any where.

I would like to ask someone who owns an assault riffle or who thinks the general public should be allowed to...why? Why do you need that? What do you plan to do with that?
I want to hear an answer.
Because imo the only reason someone would feel they need something of that caliber is to do a lot of harm in the quickest possible way.
I don't see any legitimate, legal reason for wanting one.
Some people enjoy shooting and shooting guns such as these. I come from a family of gun enthusiasts who have these types of weapons and they just enjoy shooting them. They don't own them because they want to do a lot of harm in the quickest possible way.

There are plenty of things that people enjoy that are not legal. I understand that there are many who shoot these weapons just for fun (some of my family members included) but that is not enough reason to keep it legal imo. Hundreds shot in a matter of minutes is not okay.

My family as well owns one as well, for the exact reason listed above. We have for years. We have a friend of the family who lives in PA on over 100 plus acres. We only shoot it a handful of times a year when we visit. The other 99% of the time its unloaded, taken apart and in our safe.
Trust me my whole family has been gun owners for years and I wont lie, when stuff like this happens, I question the laws sometimes too, because I want to make sure my babies are safe.

You see though, IMO, people enjoying shooting these type of guns in their spare time is not a good enough reason for them to be legal and easy to get. I'm sorry but it's not. Because until the laws are changed to ban these weapons, it will continue to be easier for these psychopaths- like the one who did this- to get these guns and go on crazy rampages. Yes you can kill people with a hand gun, or with a shot gun, or with a knife, or with a car.... but these guns are designed to cut down a lot more people in a lot quicker period of time, before the psycho can be stopped. The number of casualties from this shooting is staggering. So, I'm sorry, but if the collateral damage of laws banning these kind of assault weapons are that some good, law abiding citizens can no longer "enjoy" shooting these type of guns for a hobby, so be it. It's for the greater good.

BUT, just removing the guns from the market is not going to fix the underlying issue. That's not going to stop the next angry, bloodthirsty lunatic from building a bomb from materials he got from Home Depot, or someone plowing through a crowd with their legally registered and insured car, going on a stabbing spree with a kitchen knife, etc etc etc etc. .
Maybe not but shouldn't we at least TRY removing them from the market? Shouldn't we at least TRY SOMETHING?? I can't imagine a world where protecting a "sport" that people do for their own enjoyment is more important than people being able to live their day to day lives with their friends, family and children. But that is indeed our reality! How can hunting and people just liking being able to own a gun be more important than people being able to do something they enjoy...like go to a movie, a concert or SCHOOL!!

I still cannot comprehend why assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons are allowed to be sold to the general public. There is absolutely no reason why anyone needs them.
This is what I ask all the time. Why do you need a gun like that? You want a gun to protect yourself? Ok but you don't need a semi automatic assault riffle. Those should 100% be banned from the public.
1000% agree! Why on earth are these guns allowed to be sold? It makes no sense at all.

Limit the assault rifles to gun ranges where they can be used in a safe environment. LIke race cars on a closed race track. Nobody needs to own assault weapons and if people enjoy shooting them there are safe ways to do so.

I agree with everything you said. There is no reason to own an assault weapon. Because it's fun is not a reason to allow something so deadly be available to the public.
My prayers are to the victims and all the families. Their lives will never be the same after today.

Yes. None of our laws are completely effective but we still have them. It's not the end all, be all solution but it should be part of the solution. I'd probably be okay with them at ranges as the pp suggested but civilians should not own them any more than they should own an armoured tank.

It all boils down to the "the law says I can own one so I will and no one can tell me otherwise and those shootings would happen because guns don't kill people people kill people and Benghazi and Hillary's emails."

YES. I agree with you and I think my original comment that you edited out said as much. My point is that the mere existence of guns is not the reason why people are killing each other. It's just making it easier.
But yes, assault rifles need to be gone. There's no reason for them.

Re: Mass shooting at Las Vegas concert
Another day another mass shooting in the world's most civilized forward-thinking country. Enough with the thoughts and prayers and pity party already. They don't do shit. Thoughts and prayers = oh well, I'm just glad it wasn't me or my loved ones (for now). Thank goodness we have facebook in times like these. So everyone can feel better by posting the same profile pic of a single tear and tell us where they were when it happened, then follow it with a pic of their latest meal or workout.
No law is fool proof. People still drive while intoxicated despite it being illegal. They still speed, run traffic lights, text while driving, drive without a license or insurance, underage drink, buy drugs, gamble, evade taxes, pirate music and movies, shoplift, litter, grafitti, and break every single other law on the books. They always have and always will. Should we just do away with all laws because people will still get around them? You should be able to shoot assault rifles in your backyard for fun and your neighbor should be able to open a brothel on your block.
Kinder eggs are banned. Fuckking chocolate eggs. I have to drive to a dock at midnight and find a guy named Lefty to get one, or smuggle them across the border in my ass if I want one. But I can easily hoard and stockpile as many assault weapons as I want and I wouldn't even set off any red flags. That's American logic for you.

Pictures of the Vegas strip and the famous Welcome to Las Vegas Sign with the thoughts and prayers printed over that. Prayers for Vegas! And don't forget the hashtag. Because it's not officially a thought and/or a prayer, without a hashtag in front of it.
I always wondered who made these things so quickly. The shooter is still shooting and the FB memes and thoughts and prayers profile pic overlays are already popping up. Is someone assigned to doing this stuff?

I agree with this soooo much!!! Your analogy about the kinder eggs is really spot on. We are apparently more worried about chocolate eggs than we are about assault rifles.

From Sarah Huckabee Sanders, today is a day to mourn and it's not the time a nor place to discuss gun control. This country averages a mass shooting every day. When the f are we supposed to discus this?

Whatever useless thing makes people feel like they've contributed and feel better for two minutes about no change EVER happening and all of us just being sitting ducks for the next piece of shit that snaps. They should just post a target symbol with a countdown to the next mass shooting. That would be the most accurate depiction they can post. If you live anywhere in America and you can leave your house you're already a potential next victim. It's a sad fact and I don't think many people realize that or want to think about it. It's definitely easier to go about your day if you ignore this fact. It's easier to post a pic of dinner or a Game of Thrones meme than to think about the twenty first graders that were killed instead of enjoying another day of recess and finger painting and never getting another princess or superhero birthday party. It's easier than to think and know that it can and eventually will happen again. But we don't know what school will be next. It's easier to ignore this fact. Your age, your sex, your race, your religion, your orientation, your occupation, your status won't save you or spare you. This is the one thing that makes us all equal. You could be in school, in church, on the subway, in a library, at a restaurant, in a park, at the beach, checking in at a hotel or airport, at the supermarket, at your kid's little league game, at a concert, sporting event, in a parking lot, and you could be gunned down by a lunatic with an assault weapon that was legally purchased. Thank your congress people for this sad fact. At least we're all safe from those dangerous but delicious Kinder eggs.
