I wanted to make maple candy so I got a recipe that had a great rating on allrecipes. I followed it exactly and it never hardened all the way. The top hardened but when I went to cut it it was mush underneath. Was it b/c I used a 9 x 9 pan instead of small molds? I'm usually very good with candies, I make my own caramels and marshmallows, but I can't get the maple candy right.

Anyone have any tips?
