Make your own butter?
Anyone ever done this?
I looked up online how to and it seems so easy. I wonder if it is more cost effective than buying the sticks (I use organic)?
For anyone who has (may be a long shot)
Do you get a lot of butter out of lets say a quart of cream?
How long does it last? I read you have to give it a cold water rinse or else itll spoil in 24 hours?
TIA

Re: Make your own butter?
I've made it. It is SUPER easy.. but I don't think it's remotely cost effective. You don't get a whole lot of butter for the amount of cream you put in. We initially did it to show the kids how liquids and solids can change forms by introducing heat or movement or cold, etc.. as part of an edible science lesson (we also turned liquid pancake batter into solid pancakes to put our butter on - we also made frozen OJ slushies from OJ and strawberry syrup from strawberries.) Now we do it every now and then when the boys make a special request or if I'm feeling especially Amish.
I will say our butter tastes better than the store bought.. but it could be that I wanted it to taste better! It's also easier to introduce flavors to homemade butter - a little strawberry syrup and.. VOILA!.. strawberry butter!

I have made it. It's delicious but not cost effective. Because of the high fat content it seem to spoil fast.

ITA with everything basically!
we've made it and it's definitely fun... we used the kitchenaid mixer to do most of it and then did the rest by hand.
if you add some honey and cinnamon, it's delish!
like PPs said, not really more economical at all.... although you will get both butter and buttermilk from it!
