Maintenance Question
Would you take a slightly larger place (dining area) with a maintenance of $940 and a parking space or a smaller space (no dining area) with a garage and a maintenance of $820?
Also second vs. third floor of a three story walk-up building?
All other things being considered equal.

Hmmm. After having to get DH to push the car out of the ice today I'd say go for the garage no matter the rest of the options.

I'd probably lean towards the 2nd floor apt. Walk ups get old real fast.

Re: Maintenance Question
I'd go garage. It's less money and the dining areas aren't that big.
We lived on the 3rd floor and it really wasn't that much of a difference from the second floor.

Re: Maintenance Question
Thanks for all of the advice! We like both places and cannot decide which is a better deal... We did have an accepted offer on the higher maintenance once - ahhh!!

Re: Maintenance Question
make sure the gargage doesn't have funky rules- in my building only SUVs under a certain widith can be parked there- mine is too big by 1 inch- and I have to to park outside
just something to consider

Good point - luckily we have a wee little car. What about resale value considering that the maintenance will only go up? When others considered purchasing, how much of the decision is made by the maintanance?

Re: Maintenance Question
I have heard from my city friends that maintenance should average about 1 dollar per square foot
are these co-ops/condos in the city? b/c those maintenances fees are high
what do they include? electric?, doorman?
for alot of people a garage is a big plus-
and for other people more space is more important
I don't think you can please eveyone on this- so you have to please yourself
do you guys drive the car everyday? if yes- I would rather a garage- esp in the rain and cold- I always wish I was taking the elevator down the gargage - instead of walking over to the parking lot

This is for Great Neck Terrace. It includes everything except electric. Sadly, you still have to go outside to get to the garage. I like the idea of a garage because we could store our bikes and other things. The smaller place has attic space for storage. The larger place with higher maintenance would require us to rent storage for about 260 a year.

Re: Maintenance Question
Yes, an actual garage (I forget that in the city garage could mean enclosed parking). I need some help convincing DH that the garage, extra storage and lower maintenance is better than a dining area... I think I'm fighting a losing battle.

I would think it would be the opposite- him waiting the gargage and you wanting the dining room!

I know - he's obsessed with the dining area and I'm obsessed with the garage and lower maintenance! Life is funny.
