lower back pain - what can i do for it?
i dont remember having it with ds.. im 34 weeks today and since last night its been horrible. i used a heating pad (not sure if we can do that) and that helped but as soon as i took it off and got up the pain started again. everywhere i read it says if its back labor its constant and doesnt go away but mine did go away when i layed down in bed. I woke up got up from bed and bam its like i cant walk! it doesnt help that i have a 16 month old.
besides tylenol is there anything else i can do? can i use a heating pad?

I find exercise helps the most. I hardly, if ever get back pain, and I think it's because I stay active. Walking alone may help a great deal!

Ugh, I had this with my hip and back from weeks 30-34. Somedays (moreso with my hip) I wouldn't be able to walk too long without limping My OB said I couldn't really do anything that would help it, but I could try to take Tylenol. Keep your doctor updated (I'm sure you already thought of that though, haha). If it goes to the point where you can't even focus on anything because it's excruciating, let him/her know because--if it's more upper back pain--it might be your gallbladder. Most likely, it's just baby being in an obnoxious position .

No heat. Just ice. And tylenol.
The day my back was so bad that I broke out the tylenol, I was in labor!

Re: lower back pain - what can i do for it?
I had a bad lower back before getting pregnant and it has recently gotten worse. I have disk problems. I've been going to the gym regularly but I don't do the classes I used to do (pilates, yoga, weight training) which seemed to help before. There's not much you can really do for it, at least from my experience. If you do find something that helps please share!!

Heats no good....not for the back issue, and not for your LO. Go with ice.

Our OB recommended using a heating pad for back pain. Its both effective and safe since localized use of a heating pad on your back will not elevate your core body temperature. Hope you feel better.

I've been using a heating pad everynight before bed for the past 2 mos. Why would it be bad to use? It's on your back and not elevating your temp.

Maybe it's just my particular back issues (I go to PT 3 times a week right now)......but my therapist and OB both told me to steer clear of heat. Provides temporary relief, but can also cause swelling. Ice reduces swelling.
I really don't recall the specifics of it's affect on LO, but I know it was mentioned. Sorry I can't be more helpful!
