Look what I found in my backyard
Yay! It's a bird's nest!!
I do think it's kind of strange that I fed the birds the least this winter than ever before, and this is the first year I get a nest in my tree!
That is a Blue Jay butt sticking out of the nest. Yes, I know they may attack us when their babies hatch. No, that doesn't mean we're removing it. We can give up three weeks of backyard use while they are preparing their babies to fledge. I'm SO excited!!
I wish there was a way for me to get up there and get baby pictures but I'm not going to take the risk with all the branches and the possibility of attack!
I'm going to set out my bird bath in the vicinity and buy some peanut-based bird seed to help Momma and Daddy Blue Jay out.

so cool! I noticed this weekend that the pair of orioles that nests in our trees every year is back! I love watching them take turns caring for the babies!

Very cool - they are beautiful birds (we only get sparrows and they live in our gutters).

Re: Look what I found in my backyard
Orioles? Wow. I'd be thrilled to SEE them, much less have them nest here. House Sparrows can be a pain in the @ss, I agree! You reminded me I need to clean my gutters.
I was in Wild Bird Center tonight getting more peanuts and a woman said she had a Jay nest and they never attacked them. I wonder if my Jays could live in harmony with us and the 2 dogs. You never know!
