Long term HBC use?
I have been on the pill for 7 years & Nuva ring for 1. I am only 24 & DH and I are not ready to have a baby. We are going to start trying in about 2 years. That puts me at 10 years on Hormones!! My OBGYN said it's fine and I can stop and get pregnant whenever I want. I just feel like all my long term birth control use is going to effect me a lot.
I got my period @ 15 & went on the pill @ 16. I only ovulated for 1 year of my entire life. Im so worried i'll have a lot of trouble getting pregnant.

Re: Long term HBC use?
I have the same concern! I have been using BCP for over 10 yrs and will be getting off in 3 months after all of those years. My periods were never regular so I have a bad feeling I am going to be irregular when I get off
I posted a thread on the pregnancy board asking the ladies how long it took them to get PG after coming off BCP.
Take a look maybe this will help you get an idea

Re: Long term HBC use?
You may want to consider going off it in a year, and using another method (aka condoms). That way it gives your body a year to regulate itself. Some woman get pregnant right away coming off BC, some it take longer. I would stop the BC before you want to start ttc, that way when you are ready to ttc your body will be ready also.

Re: Long term HBC use?
my dr said the same thing and i was on BCP for 12 years...but i havent at all had normal cycles since going off BCP 4 months ago. and im not sure yet that i will ever go back on BCP.
that being said if you are still 2 years out from TTC i would stay on for at least one more year. then go off and let your body regulate for a bit before TTC.

Re: Long term HBC use?
After reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility, I regret being on the pill for all of those years when I could have been charting to avoid pregnancy instead.

I totally agree with you. I wish I have never take BCP or Depravera. After reading TCOYF it all makes sense. I never had a problem with my LP before. I had anormal cycle and now I don't. Deprovera can take years to get out of your system yet they tell you to take it every 3 years. It basically lowers your progesterone.

Re: Long term HBC use?
i was on the pill for 7 years and Nuvaring for almost 3 and i had regular cycles as soon as i stopped using them. no issues getting pregnant the first time.
then i went on the mini pill, stopped mid-cycle, got AF 25 days later, and got pregnant with #2 on my second cycle.
no issues due to BC whatsoever

I totally agree. I'd stop the pill at least 6 months to one year before you're ready and use a different method of bc. I completely regret not doing that as my cycles have been VERY long since stopping BCP in May.

Re: Long term HBC use?
I'd say give yourself a year to get them out of your system.
I was one BCP for about 5 years and went off in May and I haven't yet a normal cycle yet. I don't think I'm O'ing yet either. My doc wasn't too concerned because he said some women start O'ing right away, while for others it can take a few months and even up to a year If I knew that (my previous doc always told me 3 months), I would've went off a long time ago. I'm ready for , but my body is not and that is a very a frustrating place to be.
