Long shot question re scrap metal
I know most of you are on LI, but I figured I'd ask.
We have some scrap metal at our upstate house (in Columbia County, NY) that we'd love to unload. An old gas grill, a smaller old charcoal drum grill, 2 fire pits, maybe some other crap. Mostly we just want the stuff GONE (its taking up our shed right now) but I thought I might also be able to sell it for scrap.
Any companies that you know of service upstate NY for scrap metal removal and payment? I don't even care if I only got $10 bucks out of it. They'd have to come to us, b/c we have no means to transport these items (I have a Cruze and my husband has a Camaro)
Thanks in advance!!

Re: Long shot question re scrap metal
I'm from Columbia County - where is your 2nd home? We still have my childhood home in Germantown.
When cleaning out my Grammie's house in Hudson we used a guy Taggard's Hauling, but we paid him to remove the stuff....he's out of business now too.
I asked a friend who still lives in the area if he knows of anyone. I'll keep you posted.
It's hard to find anyone willing to come & pick up scrap metal up there. As I'm sure you know making "dump trips" is common being there is no garbage pick up.

Thanks so much! We have a small house in Copake, NY. We actually have garbage pickup in our area b/c we're part of a homeowners association, but you have to use the stupid special bags, which are $$, so normally we take our garbage home w/us to Long Island...

The bags for even taking your own garbage to the dump is like $5 bag! Crazy! If we have room in the car - it comes to LI with us too.
I'll keep you posted with what he comes back with.

Re: Long shot question re scrap metal
Not sure if they'll go that far but City Scrap Metal is one that all of the construction guys wear T-shirts from and they are pretty well known.

If you are in the 5 boroughs of NY, Westchester or NJ call 212-777-4100 to schedule your pick-up. If you are in Nassau County, Long Island, call us at 516-777-CITY. In Suffolk County, Long Island, call us at 631-777-CITY.

Its pretty rural so I'm not sure. We'd get fined from our homeowners ASSocation if we left it out, so I dont want to chance it. We're only up there every other weekend. If we had a truck, I'd bring it all home and put it out by the road here, b/c I know ppl drive around and collect scrap.

Re: Long shot question re scrap metal
Heard back from my friend - here's his response:
Word has it there's nobody. There used to be Gold's on Columbia Street but he's been gone for years now from what I'm told. Only place I know of now is in the port of Albany or there's one around the corner from my work. http://www.simsmm.com/Local-Solutions/North-America/New-York/Hudson-River-Recycling or Ontario Scrap Metal Inc. 30 Ontario Street Albany, NY 12206 518-463-2213 I think smaller amounts can be recycled at the dump though if I'm not mistaken, which I may be. It's been a while and I'm due.
It doesn't look like anyone will come & pick up. I think your best bet is CL or even a Columbia County buy, sell, swap page on Facebook.
