I just love how teachers/schools are the scapegoats when it comes to high taxes. Our schools are the main reason why people are willing to pay half a million dollars for a 3 bedroom ranch!! So, they must be doing something right!
They are scapegoats because that is where all the $ is going. Teacher salaries are 75% of the budget.
Personally though - I'll pay for the duplicated services. I want local control of school districts.
Local control is why the school taxes will always be high.. And Im for local control also.. No one wants the sd brought together... But they are a bit glutenous (sp) when it comes to spending....
I live in what people consider 1 of the worst sd on long island we are also an inc village.. Freeport and Im still amazed a the taxes we pay... So who the heck really knows where the money goes....

I'll try to keep this short but I'd like to give a first hand example of why we need to bust all of the big unions in this country & start over.
At my office we had a problem with a guy that lived in an apartment nearby walking his big dog on our property & letting it take huge dumps & leaving them there. Our patients stepped in them, we stepped in them. My boss confronted them guy with dog, he told my boss to eff off & the next day there was a load of dog crap on the top of our cement steps going into the building. Obviously the guy was messing with us. A very high ranking LOCAL politician happens to be a patient and one of my bosses mentioned to him we were having a problem with this guy & his dog.
Here's the good part-
two days later FOUR town trucks & NINE men worked for 4.5 HOURS on my boss' PRIVATE property clearing trees, picking up dog $hit & putting "curb your dog" signs as a "favor" to my boss. Since then they guy with the dog was evicted from his apartment, an inspector threatened to write the landlord up for violations unless he evicted him and EVERYDAY since this has happened a municipality public safety officer sits in her car in our parking lot watching our building several hours a day.
This is A GROSS misuse of tax dollars & power & this $hit happens ALL THE TIME. This is why our taxes keep going up & the townships are broke.
The system is broken, these people are too powerful & need to be removed.
I'm sorry, I will never except that bull$hit-"its LI the taxes are higher because its better here, if you don't like it-move"
That is assinine...if some people want to get screwed in the azz by these local governments & school districts, thats fine. Speak for yourself, I for one will be participating in the tea party on wednesday & I've already expressed my dissatification to local & state politicians.
And just remember everyone that is in favor of "big government"
A government that is big enough to give you everything you want is also big enough to take away everything you have!!!!
I am sorry to hear about this misuse of public funds but I do not understand what, if anything, this has to do with our needing to bust unions ?? Am I missing something here ??

Let me put on my kevlar suit because I'm going to get FLAMED.
I'm in favor of breaking up MOST of the unions in this country & starting over.
The civil service unions, the teachers unions, the auto workers unions, the transit unions. IMO they are all TOO big, TOO corrupt & too powerful to admit how screwed up things are. I do not believe we will ever be able to straighten out the tax situation on LI or the mess with the Big 3 car companies until the unions are gone! Its time to start from scratch to level the playing field.
That's my two cents.
