Broken rail yet once again outside the tunnels.
Delays, cancellations on ALL lines.

Yep, all lines.... but seems westbound is most affected?
Due to a broken rail in one of the East River tunnels,customers are advised to allow for extra travel time and expect cancellations and delays averaging 10-15 minutes during this evening's rush. Westbound LIRR service will be suspended at Jamaica and Woodside between 5 PM & 7 PM. Starting at 4:30 PM, NYC Transit will honor LIRR tickets on the E subway line at Jamaica (Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av), Kew Gardens (Union Tpke) and Forest Hills (71st Av) stops. At Woodside, NYC Transit will honor LIRR tickets on the 7 line (Woodside-61st St). Customers can also take the LIRR to Atlantic Terminal and connect to the 2/3 subway lines for service to Penn.

do you have the train time app? they keep pretty up to date on which specific trains are cancelled. they're not going to cancel all trains, just some and combine them with others. There are several "usual" ones that always get cancelled and combined.
doesn't look like major delays, just probably more crowded trains and getting home 20 min later than usual
typical lirr nonsense!

The problem was with Amtrak this time -not the LIRR. Amtrak actually owns Penn Station and was their rail that broke.
BUT - DH got home with no delays.

BUT - DH got home with no delays.
The problem is most times Amtrak. Amtrak owns the tracks out to Jamaica. That's where the LIRR takes over.
