Re: LIPA

we are 87.00 for a 3 bedroom ranch

i think it is easier b/ there are no surprises but just be aware that u may owe them some money at the end of the year

we had it in our apartment and they wound up crediting us a the end.

I just like the consistency...plus it is easier in the summer we have the a/c blasting in the winter u def use less electric so they a/c gets balanced out.

We didn't start out on a budget plan. Our July Bill was 140. Our August bill was 114. We switched to budget and they said it would be 65 a month.

Re: LIPA

Okay...something is WAY wrong here. I live in a 1BR apt in a apartment complex. We pay $124 on the budget. I'm paying more than some of you with 3BR houses! How is this possible??????

Re: LIPA

The fridge and the stove both look old, but not ancient. I don't cook much, so the stove is only in use to boil water for tea. Obviously the fridge is running all the time.

I just find it crazy that I pay the same or more than people who own homes about 3x the size of my apt.

maybe ask your neighbors what they pay? My friend (in a co-op) had a problem where LIPA hooked up another apartment to their meter,so they were paying double what they should have been. I would have LIPA come and check.

Our LIPA bill is high for a 2 bedroom apartment too ($145/month). We have an electric stove and electric hot water heater. Unfortunately, we live in a house so we can't compare to our neighbors. But if you are in a complex, I would ask around and see if your bills make sense.

You can also reduce your costs by installing the energy efficient light bulbs, using major appliances at off peak hours, unplug things that are not in use, etc.

This is what I don't understand about the 'balanced billing'. To owe a huge chunk of money at the end of the year, that is worse to me than paying every month as it comes along. I'd rather pay for my actual usage every month instead of being slammed with a huge bill in one month for my 'overages all along the year'.

I know that in the summer my central AC will make our power bills higher, and I plan accordingly. I'd rather not have a huge unknown payment at some 'end of year' when they reevaluate how much they've charged me and how much I actually used.

Thats not exactly how it works - you wont be left with a huge chunk of money to owe at the end of the year. They still come do the meter readings every two months. If they see you are using more than histocally (or less), they will re-evaluate the balanced billing - the goal is to be as close as to $0 at the end of the year as possible. Every bill has how much you are short or over, so its not a surprise either.

This is kinda high, but we run our window A/C all day for the dog. and we have super old windows (that are being replaced wednesday!!) and just replaced the old appliances, so I think it will be lower soon.

When you look at the back of the bill it tells you the actual usuage. it isnt a huge chunk of money to owe. That is why it is budgeted for you. If you owe money it is like under 50 bucks.....they can also change your budget amount...if they see u not using alot of electric they lower your bill if they see u using alot of electric they up your monthly payment to balance out It has worked out great for us in the apt and the house

Re: LIPA

I just looked at my new LIPA bill - our balance billing went from $132 to $94 because we had too much overage. they try to get your balance as close to zero as possible.

Wow! Why is mine $168 without Central Air?

My windows are new. Is it because my electric needs to be updated?

How old are your applianes - esp. the refrigerator and the dryer?

We are not on budget billing yet becauase we haven't been living in our house. Our bill has been $8,$10, $15. I wish it could stay that low!!!
