LIPA
I just got my bill and it increased. We have balanced billing and for the past 3 months we paid $128... now it's $197!!! $60 more which is another $600+ over the next 9 minths. It's ridulous considering we still pay for nautral gas (hot water & cooking) and oil heat!!!

Re: LIPA
Our LIPA increase was $47, I had to cancel my cleaning lady....it's insane. I am now forever keeping the house dark, my DH is as well. We wer both disgusted w/ the new increase!

Re: LIPA
They key thing you have to find out is WHY your bill is going up.
You have to compare the amount of KiloWatt hours you USED every month. Compare that to what you pay (the rate) PER KiloWatt/hour.
Is your bill going up because LIPA raised the rate of KW/hr.... or did it go up because you are simply using more electricity.
Thats the big question you have to ask yourself. Does anyone here even know what you pay per kilowatt hour?

Re: LIPA
There was a recent rate increase by LIPA due to the oil price per barrel increase and with the recent hurricanes that occurred. So everyone is going to be affected regardless of usage.
edited to fix wording

I'll take a look at my con-ed bill when I get home to compare the difference. I have a feeling I actually pay more. For some reason .17 rings a bell with me.
But i'll check and post it here.
Here's a trick you can try. Do you have a feeling a certain appliance is eating up all your electric (Microwave, Computer, Fridge, etc.). Buy one of these!
Kill-A-Watt Electricity Meter
I am thinking of buying one myself. It measures how much KH/hr a specific electrical item uses. Quite useful IMO.

Re: LIPA
The prices went up due to the new sur-charge due to the increase in oil prices. I 'think' it was 18% surcharge, not positive.....

Re: LIPA
You can actually call LiPA and ask for a rep to come over and he will eval your house to see why.... I found this incredibly useful
Aside from the fact that Lipa did make an announcement that their rates are going UP

This is why I say its VERY important to monitor what your rates are exactly. LIPA can say all they want that rates are going up.
You should see exactly WHY and HOW they are going up. Monitor each bill every month. Just because you were paying $150 a month and now you are paying $200... thats not enough information.
Find out the KW/hr you paid BEFORE the rates went up... and find out what you are paying AFTER.

Re: LIPA
Some of you may remember that I've been fighting with LIPA for over a month about my $300 a month electric bill for a one bedroom apartment that NEVER has anyhting turned on, well, it turns out that NO ONE regulates LIPA, so as I have found out, we are all just screwed eventually by them
