Limited Registration
Yes, I have yet ANOTHER question! I am checking out a breeders website and it seems like they offer two different types of contracts for adopting their pups. One is for a "show potential" pup (which seems obvious to me as to what kind of dog that is) and the other is called a "Limited Registration" contract. I've never heard of this, can someone explain what a Limited Registration contract is? Is it just another term for a pup that doesn't have "show potential"?
The breeder seems reputable, I got the link from a listing on the AKC website.
Has anyone heard of this?
Thanks!

Re: Limited Registration
This is a sign of a reputable breeder. Limited Registration means the animal is Pet Quality and not show quality. You will have to sign a contract agreeing to neuter or spay the dog so you cannot breed it. It doesn't mean there is anything wrong with the dog, just that it is not absolutely perfect for showing (teeth might be a little crooked, coloring not exactly right) so they don't want to compromise breed standards with that pup.
Good luck!!

ITA. Both Denver and Holden have Limited Reg. Denver is too tall and Holden has crooked teeth but are both happy, healthy dogs. Their parents were CERF'ed (eye exam) and other testing. I would definitely ask about what testing was done on the parents -- but it sounds like this is a good breeder. Good luck!

Re: Limited Registration
Thank you both for the feedback! I was getting nervous that the breeder might have been shady but now reading what you're saying, it makes sense.
Thanks again!!

Good luck!! ITA. In addition, the limited registration also allows the pup to compete in agility competitions, but not in shows like Westminster. Also, if the breeder is offering both full registration for Show Potential, as well as Limited Registration, It also shows that the breeder is using AKC guidelines to breed their dogs - a sign of a good breeder (And the fact that they are saying "Show Potential" rather than "Show Quality" is also a sign of a good breeder.)

This is all extremely helpful!!
It's so hard finding a reputable breeder...I'm just so leary. It certainly sounds like I may have found one.
Thank you all for your help, I really appreciate it!
