No they aren't actually friends,
A few weeks ago Katie mentioned she was coming back to Long Island and was looking for free or inexpensive things to do. It seems Janet was able to get her tickets to the Aquarium. Katie probably just wanted to thank her.
Not sure why this is breaking news.
As for who Katie Beers is.
When she was 9 yrs old, she was kidnapped and held captive in an underground bunker by a family "friend" for 17 days in Bayshore.
She had a very sad childhood leading up to that day.
She is doing great now and has written a book about her experience.

I did find it completely bizarre.
Both that you'd pop on after 3 years to post this
and
that Janet is still getting free tickets to things. But maybe they are friends IRL? Not sure of the ages but maybe they knew each other before the whole thing?

I did find it completely bizarre.

Janet posted she met them last week.
As for the free tickets. Maybe she called Atlantis to see if they would donate tickets to Katie's family. She may even have paid for them. Regardless, I think it's a nice thing she did for her and the family.

I agree it was a nice thing she did.
I'm just wary on anything she's involved in since I feel that she would be willing to take advantage of a business by using Katie Beers' name without her knowledge (not saying that's the case here).
