LICE!!??

I figure this is best posted here since it's usually school related....

NO, Bella does NOT have it, thank god...but we got a note in her cubby today that one of the students in the nursery/pre-k does Chat Icon Chat Icon

Any advice? What should I do?

All her bed sheets and clothes she wore today are soaking in a hot wash right now.

Both her and lola went straight into a bath after I picked her up.

What do I do with the 100 stuffed animals she sleeps with Chat Icon

HELP! Chat Icon I'm slightly freaking out.

If she has long enough hair, keep it back in a ponytail.

I also swear by Fairy Tales Rosemary Repel - http://www.fairytaleshaircare.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=6&Itemid=61

If you can't find it & dont' want to buy it online, some salons have it. I know Salon Domane in Northport carries it.

For the stuffed animals, throw them in a garbage bag & seal them up for two weeks OUTSIDE!

IF this helps

My kids haven't ever had lice but my sister dealt with such a severe infestation for weeks - she paid over $2500 just to get her family deliced. It was horrible.

Also just a word of advice, they said movie theater seats are a big way of spreading them. The people from the company said they bring a sheet to sit on in the movie theater when there are bad outbreaks in their area.

Re: LICE!!??

Yea, on the sheet they sent home they mentioned getting the Fairy Tale stuff.

Now if it was in the other class how bad/fast could it spread?

We are trying to figure out which kid has it Chat Icon

It can spread quickly - particularly if there is a sibling in one class & one in yours.

edited to add: The company told my sister that if it's any consolation, they do tend to gravitate toward clean hair versus dirty.

I woudnt freak out too much, as long as you check her hair every day and are quick to treat it is she catchs it you will be fine..

My DD (5) did get lice last year, not even sure where from, but only realized it becuase she was scratching and complaiing her head was ichy. It is def gross, but honeslty we did 2 treatments on nix shampoo, combed her hair every night, washed sheets in hot water, and put away all hair clips and within a week it was all over.... no one else in our house even caught it, including my then 2 year old

Re: LICE!!??

Lice LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE nice clean hair, so if you can only shampoo her once every few days or so, and send her to school with her hair TIGHTLY help back. I know its gross to think of sending her with dirty hair, but Lice HATE dirty hair.

I have no problem with dirty hair if it means she doesn't get it!

I am really itchy now Chat Icon

Last year, Bella got a similar note home. She did not get lice. I know when I lived up Upstate as child, it was rampant...

Re: LICE!!??

Definitely get Fairy Tale Shampoo - you can also use a cheaper brand by V05 - Tea Therapy it has rosemary in it and that's what the lice don't like.

If you daughter has long hair I strongly recommend hairspray, gel and putting it back. Please tell your children DO NOT ABSOLUTELY do not wear anyone else's hat or share combs, rushes, etc.....

It was rampant in the girls day care a few years ago and I was flipping out so I did alot of research on how not to get it.

Again, the love clean hair so dirty it up a bit. Lots of hairspray...

Re: LICE!!??

I literally JUST read a short article in Parenting magazine about lice. It said that it's NOT really that easy to pass from child to child, and that cleaning like a madman is not necessary (and this was just for kids who HAD it!). Lice are also totally harmless (albeit gross!).

I wouldn't really worry too much about it!! Chat Icon

Re: LICE!!??

Yep, dirty hair prevents them from getting it. Keep her hair tied back, and make sure she knows not to share hats, hair ties, etc. I remember seeing some product that is supposed to repel lice but I don't remember.

Re: LICE!!??

Lots of hair gel and hair spray, rinse washed hair with equal parts white vingar and water once a week.

A bun in her hair with a ballet bun cover is helpful too.

Another tip to add to the ones already mentioned....

When you drop her off at school. Put her jacket in her backpack not in a cubby or on a shelf. Same goes for hats and gloves as well.
